Why the SEC Network and ESPN are important. I think Bama was on national TV more times than Wichita State this past season already.

eta: I am just gonna make myself clear that I don't think this is going to happen and I am really afraid this is a huge waste of time by Battle. I am just attempting to lay out reasons why it could happen.

Parrish bringing it up today has made me 2nd guess myself on this considering how involved he is in the coaching circle. I think he is the one who wrote the long article Shane posted a few pages back about why Marshall isn't leaving WSU.

Wrong. He can't even get a home and home with KU every year. At AL he'd play Kentucky twice per year.

Hasn't Saban complained about how he is treated by some UA fans?
Nope, he created this monster of a program - it's his own damn fault if we have sky high expectations, consistantly winning at his level has spoiled us rotten.

Now, we've been chastized for getting complacent and leaving games early in blowouts and shite like that, but he has never complained about how the UA fans treat him.

Saban's become engrained in the community, especially since the tornado. He's one hell of reference to have.

THIS^^^^

Saban has long been interested in the success of the basketball program as a rising tide lifts both boats....and I can see the GOAT, rockstar coach selling Marshall on the possibilities...money, resources, and support are no issue at Alabama....and it's Alabama for fricks sake....Witchita State??? c'mon man....

He better have VCU consistent though. His stock can't be high forever.

Wouldn't really matter to UF if Donovan were to leave anytime soon. Many feel like someone from the Donovan tree would be next in line, even Anthony Grant is still very much admired in Gainesville.

fricking retard. If his dream job is Indiana then he can negotiate no buyout and so if he lands the Indiana job next year he can move with no penalty.

Would that be something Alabama wants though? A guy who could leave without a buyout in a year. I would think if he went, he would be expected to stay.

This is not a Marshall or WSU problem. Some P5 schools are not going to schedule all of the instate schools if there is no benefit to doing so.

We have that with Saban currently....but that is Saban of course and he can dictate anything he likes.....

He's able to schedule with what suits him at Wichita State and as long as it included an early season tournament and their conference slate he's been fine in seeding in the NCAA tournament (which is what matters).

My larger point still stands though. He was on the short list for UCLA and will definitely be on the short list for Indiana. No one knows what's going to go down at North Carolina either. The NBA will come calling again for Cal as well. He can still make tournament runs from Wichita State while waiting for a much larger job to open.

Yeah that is just smart scheduling from Kansas.

How is having a guy at the peak of college coaching help recruit a guy to a school ever been a negative?

He is at the peak of college football coaching. I am pretty sure that Marshall said this morning that he would not want to coach at a football school. What that means, I leave up to you. To me, it means he does not want to play second fiddle to football.

(I truly hope UA does get him...I am all for great coaches again in the SEC like the days of Sanderson, Dale Brown, Pitino, Smith, etc.)

Buyouts typically benefit the employee. That being said, you obviously wouldn't hire him if you knew he was one and done but you'd just have to weigh the risk. If its his dream job and he's able to land it and the program is in better shape, best of luck to him in the future.

Ditto

While I doubt Marshall will accept the Bama offer - I look forward to great SEC basketball again.

Save yourselves from frustration.

This has no chance of happening.

Same deal as we've had with Coach Saban and there have some damn fine college football jobs that have come available in his tenure at Bama. Notre Dame/Texas/USC/Nebraska/Miami/Florida/Tennessee/Penn State/Michigan/Ohio State.

Oh I agree I just think people underestimate Bama's basketball support.

Yeah I've said similar things when y'all hired Pearl and the thread on the MSB about Howland.

This isn't CFB where a couple losses to these good coaches can ruin a season. The Big 12 is getting teams in to the tournament with records barely over .500 based on the perceived difficulty of the conference.

But we're here today, and we have the money right now. Do you understand why thats better than some shite that may or may not happen in the future?

First things first. 1.Wichita > Tuscaloosa.

2. The state of kansas is all about basketball, the state of Alabama is all about football. Point.

3. Wichita St. has multiple Final 4's. They are easily one of the best Mid-majors. A bottom feeder P5 job is below that level.

4. Wichita St. doesn't have a football team. He is the top dog. He said he doesn't want to go to a "football school".

5. Marshall has stated he wasn't going anywhere until his son graduated HS, which is this year. They love Wichita.

6. He is waiting for a blue blood job. Texas, Indiana are definite possibilities but just made the tourney (giving coaches another year). I could see Duke as a destination if Coach K decides to hang it up, or Syracuse in "3 years".

7. Boils down to this. He has an excellent situation at WSU. He is not leaving for anything less than a slam dunk job.

@ RTR...You do realize that average is at capacity for their arena, and yours is roughly 65% of capacity right?
