Yeah, we wouldn't know anything about that.

Be a pessimist, that’s what you do best.

We haven't had a defense to dictate to an offense since Pruitt left.

Why is that?

I’m regularly proven right. It’s because I divorce my feelings from the truth.

The rules say one thing but you can still have a great defense. Michigan didn’t wait for Milroe they came after him and destroyed him and our OL. Texas did the same. Oklahoma brought it to Texas last season while we played a passive defensive game against Texas. The year Tennessee beat us we were passive and UGA went after Tennessee and crushed them.

Saban allowed us to have a passive defense while we had innumerable guys on defense playing in a bad scheme. The same players who are explosive, turnover causing NFL players.

It really wasn’t Pete Golding’s fault. It was Saban’s fault. Saban learned under Tony Dungy, Jerry Glanville and Buddy Ryan but he let our defense get soft.

Alabama had so many injuries with offensive skill players by the end of the season that the 2021 natty is more Mickey Mouse than Lebron's COVID ring.

Michael Penix stats prior to Washington

2018 21/34 61.8 % 219 yds 1 td 0 int
2019 110/160 68.8% 1394 yds 10 td 4 int
2020 124/220 56.4% 1645 yds 14 td 4 int
2021 87/162 53.7% 939 yds 4 td 7 int

Milroes stats
2021 3/7 43% 41 yds 1 td 0 ints
2022 31/53 58% 297 yds 5 td 3 ints
2023 187/284 66 % 2834 yds 23 td 6 ints

Are you telling me you didn't think deboer can work with that? Milroes had Butt Chin Bob for 2 seasons developing him not at all (apparently telling him to change positions) and Rees for one year, doing better job than BoB with him but Rees thought Tyler buchner should have started a game so he's clearly mentally defective

Milroe got so much better over last season, and with deboers system he's going to be a monster, it's not even really a question. The only question is will any of the other guys we have show out so much more they beat him for the job.

Shaft is back with a different song and dance. Last season it was Milroe that was going to cause Alabama to implode. They couldn’t win with him. This year Milroe is ok, now it is the defense that is the problem. They can’t win with them. I recognize a pattern here.

I think this is an over simplification.

Smart at UGA follows a similar general philosophy to what Saban at Bama did (it's where he learned it).

First goal of the front 7 is contain. Second goal is pressure.

If you can't get pressure without keeping contain, you sacrifice pressure.

In Kirby's first few years at UGA, UGA did well with contain but had very low sack/pressure numbers. As UGA's talent level increased and they got the right guys in place, more pressure came.

When I see a Saban or Smart coached team not getting pressure, my assumption is that something about that matchup is preventing them from both maintaining containment and getting pressure, so they're choosing containment.

Saying someone "got soft" is not really accurate. Saban didn't change his approach, it's just that due to some recruiting misses, matchup difficulties or some inability to get the players coached up, they had to sacrifice pressure on the defensive front. It wasn't likely do to a change in philosophy.
