What I’m saying is I don’t believe in organized religion. I believe in facts. A religious truth based on a judgmental book is not believable to me.

I'm not going to tell someone there's no God, it's entirely possible that there is. Science simply isn't all-knowning and there's ton of holes in our understanding of the universe and its origins.

But I find it real hard to believe that a being that is powerful enough that he created everything within a Universe so expansive that the human mind can't comprehend it...billions upon billions of stars, billions upon billions of galaxies, etc made up of damn near infinite collection of atoms and other particles...really gives a shite if some guy puts his wiener in another guy's butt.

Or is insecure enough to need the validation of some chunks of meat on some shitty little planet in the middle of a shitty little galaxy orbiting a shitty little sun.

An all powerful, benevolent God doesn't need validation. Or money. Or power. Or the other things that come along with organized religion.

But men do.

If there is a God in the traditional sense, I think he created us to watch us grow and observe. Nothing more, nothing less. The rest was added by men to:

A) Deal with our fear of death and the unknown
B) Keep the poor from rising up and taking over the rich by instituting basic rules such as "don't murder", etc

I'll bet Montana is beautiful this time of year. I envy you in a lot of ways. but I think I will avoid the winters!

While winters are harsh, especially this one, every part of the year here is beautiful.

Summers are unbeatable compared to anywhere else in the country.

Lol@ you clowns of weak mind. Did Santa or the tooth fairy her a shout out? Oh just the imaginary all mighty one that protects us all from the Devil but is sometimes too busy and let's us get shot in the back of the head at church praising him? Seems legit

Nice. This should be the case for all our leaders whether you agree with their policy or not.

This would never happen in the NE or west coast. God bless the south.

This can not be stressed enough. Why would an all powerful, omnipotent being create life just to be worshipped and admired? It doesn’t make sense. These are human characteristics, not characteristics of omnipotence.

You are confusing Judaic law made by and added to by man with sin.

Uh, it’s in the Bible. The Bible is “supposedly” the word of god. If it’s in there, it’s there because he wanted it to be in there (according to the belief).

So if you are going to now argue that these things that are in the Bible as direct commands from god are “out there by man” because it is just something you don’t feel like following or lack the conviction to follow, then you have just killed any credibility you have as a Christian.

Not really. Hinduism is the only older major religion, and if you research it you'll find great similarities in it and Judaism, which is the foundation for Christianity. Islam is closely tied to Judaism, also. Actually the 3 have "ironically" many thing in common.

Yes really. Like thousands of years older. As is Buddhism, Zoroastrianism, Taoism, and many many more.

What does it matter if they have common qualities? The Egyptians religious beliefs were very similar to the Aztecs, Incans, and Myans.

To argue that because Christianity shares similar qualities of far older religions actually hurts its credibility as the one true religion. Basically the idea was stolen from older religions. Even the story of Jesus was stolen from the Egyptians in their god Horus.

Isn't almost everything? I mean, are you not being closed minded by dismissing our beliefs out of hand?

Not really. No one is telling you not to believe. You can believe in whatever you want to. You just can’t demand that others follow your beliefs too.

Did science have the answers when scientists thought the earth was flat?

Science has never said the earth was flat. Religion said that and because religion had such a strong influence on the people at the time (more of an influence than science) people accepted the religious belief that the earth was flat and the center of the universe. Science disproved that belief (at the cost of many lives brought on by the persecution of the church).

Ash, you know we get along well but you are way over zealous on boards when it comes to attacks on God. Let's stick with the original topic of not letting politics get in the way of a Whitehouse visit.

Well we managed to get to page 7 of this thread before the anti-Christian insults started.
If that’s not evidence of divinity, I’m not sure what is.

If you think that's what that particular rule is for, you're a goddamn imbecile.

Please don't use the Lord's name in vain.

Also, thank you for your compelling response. Please go on.

You made a stunningly unintelligent observation. I'm not going to apologize for calling it out.

Claiming that the universally accepted right to human life (something that is codified in law of every sovereign state in the world) is some sort of religious tool to keep down slaves assures me that you have no experience with, or understanding of morality or human rights. Or the theology of the world's major religions, for that matter.
