We still scored a TD after that drop. If anything, Bolden dropping it allow us to run more clock.

Us LSU fans feel your pain, but we’re trending upward on D now. Hope it continues. State and Aub next two weeks will tell us.

...to be the Terminator cyborg they have been in the past.

They usually crush the opponents' will early and then choke the life out of them slowly until they die a painful football death.

But a mediocre set of skill players at Florida had them hanging on for dear life and they look beatable.

This has to be troubling if you are a Tide fan.

Do they find another gear? Probably, Saban is the GOAT and has coached them up in the past, so if history is a teacher, we can assume they get stronger.

But then again.....

I agree with the premise that this team is talented but doesn't have that killer instinct of a champion. It could develop though. My theory is they're going to have to lose a game to receive the information the coaching staff is selling to them w/r/t being a great competitor. The sooner the better imo. Would be pretty funny if Kiffin becomes the first assistant to beat Saban but that loss ends up propelling Saban's team to meeting their potential. Maybe not, might just be the first of 2 or more losses. Who can tell? It is a younger team than the last season.

The place where I differ from many Alabama fans is that I don't think this is a uniquely Pete Golding problem. So many of Saban's former defensive assistants leave the program and immediately pare down the complexity of the scheme dramatically to improve execution. Ultimately the blame is at Saban's feet because Pruitt left a good blueprint for paring down his schemes to the essential and it doesn't seem to have stuck with the program past his departure for Knoxville.

Saban's the GOAT though. He has 7 national titles and he's won titles in spite of his own defense a couple of times. Ultimately with how the game is played, it is just about getting off the field on 3rd and longs more consistently. That's been the big problem the last 4 seasons.

Of course, we've played 2 games against Mullen where he either unloads back into empty or outright aligns in it...and we see #8's arse trotting out to the sideline to cover the back...and they can either run QB draw/power or a simple slant and stop into the void in the middle of the defense every fricking time. Just play zone against it you chucklefricks.

So I'm not sure it is bad execution as much as bad strategy. Certainly at a minimum it is a combo of the two. It is clear that teams basically spend a lot their prep on 3rd and long execution. Saban gotta change it up sometimes because it is maddening to see teams just personnel and formation our asses into a busted play before the snap even happens.

Are we going to go undefeated? Most likely not. That doesn't mean we're not gonna win a championship

Bama has a game like that every year.

2010- South Carolina
2011- Georgia Southern
2012- A&M
2013- A&M
2014- Auburn
2015- Ole Miss
2016- Ole Miss and Arkansas
2017- Auburn
2018- Arkansas
2019- Ole Miss/LSU/Auburn
2020- Ole Miss and Florida

It's like people forget about those games. In those 11 seasons, Bama won 5 titles and made 6 playoff appearances.

Bama usually needs a wake up call every year, other wise they get bored. Being up 21-3 against Florida, Bama got complacent and it took the offense a quarter to get it back going.

Pruitt simplified the defense so he could play aggressively and fast. Jeremey Pruitt's defenses were blitzing at around 50% compared to around 30% for a Kirby Smart defense. It was attack, attack, attack. His linebackers were super hawkish getting to the QB.

Coach Saban wasn't doing that yesterday and has gone back to all the conservative stuff with Golding/Smart that keeps us a step behind good offenses. It's his nature after all. Golding just doesn't have the personality to implement an aggressive style cause he obviously won't or can't do it over coach Saban's dead body.

Jeremy Pruitt could.

I've made no allusions to Georgia beating Bama.

I've merely made the observation that Bama appears beatable in contrast to other years. They don't appear to have the level of physicality and athleticism that we have seen in some of the more dominant squads. I stand by that comment.

Further, I haven't made the claim that Georgia has more impressive wins or anything to that effect.

I have stated that I think Florida's skill set players are mediocre, I stick by that comment as well. I do not see their skill set talent level on a par with some of their better teams, and definitely feel like EJ & Co are a step down from Trask, Pitts, Grimes and Co.

Put it this way, At no point vs. Florida did I feel like we were at risk of losing the game.

Vs. Florida in the SECCG last year, I remember being on the edge of my seat hoping we'd pull it off.

So if we're not very good this year, apparently nobody else is either, because OSU, Clemson, Oklahoma, etc all look down this year.

Maybe this is the year the stars align for the Dawgs. Alabama is still a damn tough out for anyone though. We're losing 2 games tops this season. One reg season and one post season - tops.

I don't truly believe that our defense is as bad as the second half of that UF game.

I think that they got complacent when we went up 21-3 and then when the momentum shifted and UFs crowd got going, they didn't really know how to react.

You gotta remember two things: that was most of our guys first true away game, and that is one of the rowdiest atmospheres in cfb. Second thing is this defense is quite used to having a nice fat cushion to play on with our offense scoring on nearly every possession last year.

They got punched in the mouth and didn't know how to react. They will learn a lot from that came. They'll be fine going forward IMO.

The real problem is our run blocking. That has to develop if we wanna take it all the way again. Should be a very exciting and fun season.
Good post. Hopefully some guys step up after that punch in the mouth game and show some serious leadership from here on out. This team is lacking a true leader to push and hold 'em accountable. someone to challenge them and get on their arse when they make mistakes.

This is the crux of it. This is a very talented football team. I do not think they're a championship football team right now. People get a bit hyperbolic sometimes.

SEC has more teams that could improve enough not just Bama. It’s going to be a crazy season in the SEC East and West.

Same shite was said in 2015 when they won it all. Very few National championship teams have been elite at every position group. Most championship teams aren’t going to look like 2008 Florida or 2011 Alabama or 2019 LSU.

The question is; are they still better than everyone else this year?
