True George. Took him 2 years with Montevallo, 4 years with Campbell and only 1 year with Tech. What kind of team do y'all have coming back for next year?

We return a chunk of our starting lineup and contributors (Avant, Taylor, Vance, Henry, Holcombe, Short, Webb).

We lost Burrows (CP), Freeman (P) and Haynie (Catcher) to the draft and are still waiting to hear on a few other guys (Eicholtz (P), Foster (RP), Suchey (P) and Bramblett (P).

If all the guys we are still waiting on return we should have a pretty solid club. Seems like Eicholtz is the most likely to leave, and if he does, it would be a hit, but we'll still have a pretty solid nucleus.

Georgie wasn't drafted this year. Really had a rough go of it in 2016 (though he finished strong). Hopefully he gets a shot somewhere.

I think Haynie has already said he is signing, so he is gone. Still waiting to hear on Eicholtz and Bramblett.

I went to HS with his dad and my daughter went to HS with Georgie. His speed alone should get him some looks.

He was a great high school athlete and came in and played well early. But, unfortunately, like many of our young kids under Gaspard/Phillips, he never really improved or took that next step. Really frustrating because he was very talented.

Yikes! That ain't good! What does the incoming signing class look like?

Typical Gaspard class. Solid but not elite. Four guys were drafted.

Yep - had 3-4 kids in-state leave to go to State, Ole Miss, Vanderbilt and LSU, as per the usual.

If Alabama can lock down the state again, it would somewhat offset the fact that we don't have a lottery scholarship to use.

they have a committment from the boy in Cullman who will probably be leading candidate for Player of the Year in '17. But if all goes well, he'll probably be drafted in the first round.

This is the problem. I so wish the NBA and MLB would follow suit with the NFL. If kids don't want to go to college then make them wait until they are 21. I guarantee 99% would go to college.

No he hasn't won everywhere he has been. He has a losing conference record at Louisuana Tech. This is a very underwhelming hire

Kind of agree.

This is so dumb. If a kid is capable of going pro straight out of high school, he/she ought to be able to. No more forcing kids to go do something they do not want to do.

My ideal process for all sports is like how baseball does it. You can sign out of high school but if you elect to go to a 4 year college then you have to stay 3 years.

100% and have been saying it for a while. Its pretty messed up to set an age limit for a business after 18.

I mean - it's a risk. Guy hasn't won at the highest level. But the fact that he took over programs that were the worst in their conferences 3 times and had bad records for his first few seasons (or first season) seems like a silly reason to be underwhelmed.

It took various timeframes at the 3 schools, but at all 3 he turned the program around from bottom feeder to top of the conference and in the NCAA tournament. Who knows if that translates, but it isn't like he muddled around and won a few years then sucked then won a few years. There is a pretty linear pattern at each school, and what he is taking over at Alabama is better (relative to the conference as a whole, middle of the pack) than he did at Montevallo, Campbell or Louisiana Tech.

Time will tell.

A lot of my friends who live in ruston are rustled AF about this. They are bitching about no loyalty yada yada yada. LaTech fans are very much more delusional than LSU fans. They honestly don't understand why he is leaving Tech to go to Bama. It's bad when LSU fans look at Tech fans and see them as delusional.

Well...the deal with Goff was locked down last night verbally between the two parties - now Bama has screwed up and let this thing go on wayyy to long this morning...I go back to my stance that Goff is Bama's backup and they are working on a bigger name.

If they don't have a Godf deal inked in the next 70 minutes I don't think it will happen.

i agree this is extremely underwhelming but what did you expect? I'm shocked he took the job. I thought we'd end up with Jax State or South Al's coach. this isnt an indictment of Bill Battle, the program or anything. Back in the day when all was an even playing field Bama baseball was the tops in the SEC until States run in the 80's. Great baseball players will come to Bama but not to pay their own way. Dont start on well Jim Wells did this. Jim Wells coached in a completely different time. The scholarships are THE reason he got out. He couldnt compete anymore.

Bama and Auburn operate at a huge disadvantage. One of the most blatant and obvious disadvantages anybody could operate under and people choose to ignore it and if I were you I wouldnt want to discuss it either since you gain a big advantage over Bama with the current set up. It amazes me that this lottery schollie thing is legal and has not been addressed but there simply arent enough states that dont have it to make a big deal out of it like they did the unlimited football schollies in the 70's . Mitch Gaspard, Mitch Gaylord, Augie or Skip are not gonna win at Bama dividing up 11.7 schollies. yes, its underwhelming but ask yourself, would you take a job with that stacked against you? I cant believe he left a state where he can basically have as many players as he wants to come to Bama but it will make NO DIFFERENCE whatsoever in Bama's wins and losses. you could have kept gaspard and saved money. Until the lottery is addressed Bama and Auburn have ZERO chance. Manieri should have been fired for losing 2 to a team full of walk-ons which is basically what Bama is.
Ask Skip where LSU would be without the lottery.
