If you didn't beat the defending National Champions can you really claim a National Title this year ?
Only Miami & Indiana can truly be National Champions this year.

By that logic the first natty winner who did not make the next title game would have been the only natty winner ever. They also could t have ever won a natty because they did not beat the previous years natty winner because they won the first one.
