Tom Brady is overrated because he doesn't win the Superbowl every year.

Babe Ruth is overrated because he didn't hit 2000 homeruns in his career.

Tiger Woods is overrated because he doesn't have at least 20 Master's championships.

Basically the equivalent of the AJC's article

I don't disagree that more attention should be given to those who help others, but I find it hard to imagine a world without sports or the arts. If they have no value and don't make the world better, then why are you posting here? I appreciate anyone who has worked to perfect their talent, or outworked a more talented person, regardless of the endeavor. Makes life more interesting.

didn't say they have no value, just overhyped in our current society

wasting time at work, is there another reason?

that's fine. I just don't put "people skills" which coaching really is, as some special talent

Pretty dumb article, but Saban has benefited from several perennial SEC powers going through historically down times in the program's history. Still though, you can only play the games on your schedule. It's not his fault UT and AU have pretty much been dumpster fires during his tenure at UA, the 2010 AU team not withstanding.

Some would say it's entirely his fault, at least in regards to AU. AU was playing very good to great ball through 2007. The Saban outrecruited and outcoached Tubs, and the barn shat themselves and fired a good coach and hired Mr. 5-19.

An argument can be made regarding UT as well, since they hired Dooley and Sal Sunseri.

This^^...everyone criticzes Bama's schedule but Michigan, Arkansas, and Auburn would have seemed like pretty tough competition this time last year so I don't understand why Bama gets criticized for it when it looked good just a year ago,,,,,and everyone thought Aggie would be a pushover,,,,,also we would have seen Georgia in the regular season if not for conference realignment.....you can only play the schedule you set

I guess we got lucky (or whatever conspiracy anyone wants to dream up) with kentucky next year but in fact we just got done cycling through UF and USCe on our rotation.....

They may but they love to take shots at the Dawgs most of all. GT is the best program ever...at least as reported on the AJC.

Saban has won 3 National Titles. This puts him there with Darrel Royal 3 titles with Texas, Woody Hayes 3 with Ohio States, Tom Osborne 3 with Nebraska, Barry Switzer 3 with Oklahoma, Knute Rockne 3 at ND. If wins it this year he ties Frank Leahy 4 at ND and John Mckay 4 with USC. He is half way to the Bear who has 6 all with the Tide. Oh yeah he won titles at two different schools. He is worth every cent Bama pays him!

yeah really. these kinda folks don't really matter. How do they make the world better? cause they sing dance or coach well???? It's bout priorities for each of us. Me personally, I wish more attention was paid to people who helped others instead of helping themselves I don't expect many if any to agree, that's the way I like it

Things like sports and the arts make life enjoyable, and to a certain extent, make life worth living.

Can you imagine life where the most entertaining thing in it is watching a dude work on a spreadsheet?

I know cops and firemen and nurses and teachers and whatnot are all more "important", but people don't come out in droves to see them perform.

Actors and athletes may be overpaid and selfish, but I can't imagine life without them.

maybe, maybe not.

i think that sometimes controversial articles are published/posted just to generate attention and, most importantly, drive hits/readership. more readers = more revenue. alabama fans are not known to be reticent in responding & reacting to articles about their team--they will show up in droves to comment or read, especially on something like this.

Based on the body of work on the college level, SOS is the best coach in the SEC. Look at Duke, at UF, and USC. Besides, he's cheap and produces results.

Will UTK go after DC at Duke? They should.......

Look at Bama's program between the Bear 1983-2006 and Saban one good Coach Gene Stallings 1990-1996 that is it! Bama won only 1 National Title and Three SEC Titles in the 24 years between the Bear and Saban. Saban has restored one of the top five all time great programs in the sport.

I can see the writer of that article telling his editor "You want me to do what? Ok, ask me to write something stupid and you'll get a stupid article."

He was probably laughing when he wrote it. Everybody knows Saban is the best CFB coach of this era.
