You do know that A&M was initially constructed to be a branch of the University of Texas, right?
The only reason your school is larger is because it's now a diploma mill and most Texas and OU rejects end up there.

The real reason it is larger is because of the politics in the state of Texas. They have been dragging their feet on promoting another school to system (ie, tier 1) status. The University of Texas at Austin has limited space to grow while A&M sits on a 5000+ acre campus, so off A&M goes to grow.
The state guarantees acceptance for students who finish in the top 10% of their class, and there are a lot of them in Texas. U of Texas got an exemption and the pool is smaller for them for mandatory accepts.
Throw in a previous univeristy president who embraced the growth and you have what we got now. A university that is freaking huge. Too huge IMO.
