At least 1979. Eric Dickerson, in an article in USA Today's Friday edition, admits openly that his grandparents received a suitcase with $50,000 to reimburse them for a gold Trans Am he drove off a Houston lot. Where he drove it to Dallas to attend SMU. Once there, a booster from SMU helped him buy a Corvette. In the article, he admitted he never played a down for the Aggies, "but to whom could the Aggies complain ?" "So that's the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but, straight from the horse's mouth".

It goes back farther than that. They were paying players when Bryant was there.

Wow, I’ve never heard the Eric Dickerson Trans Am story. It’s almost like it hasn’t been posted on this board 5 times this week.

Yea, but Texas was manipulating the limitless scholarships until it was no longer a rule 2011. Otherwise, how else could you rationalize Texas always beating Texas A&M?

And sold the transam after he got a vette.

This news is more recent than your last national championship. So it must be new news in regards to your big bad elite program.

Texas was paying players.

Texas was paying players.

Pretty sure this is the first time Dickerson admitted it.

First time I’ve heard that story pretty crazy

I’m sure it goes back to the beginning of time for most.

Truth is the degree from A&M for players that finish school is worth a lot of money. That's a another form of cheating I guess.

Erick Dickerson never liked A&M.

But I wasn’t into A&M. First, I didn’t like their uniforms. That was a big factor for me as an 18-year-old who wanted to look cool. Second, the student body was about two-thirds male. When I visited, it seemed like there were no girls, just a bunch of dudes from the school’s Corps of Cadets in military uniforms. They didn’t even have cheerleaders; they had male “yell leaders.” It just wasn’t what I was envisioning for my college experience.

Eric Dickerson and a few others were the reason SMU got the death penalty

How did A&M cheat? Dickerson did not go to school at A&M. Had he gone to A&M, that would have been cheating.
