kind of a dumb opinion to have when you don't know all the facts.
maybe he had massive depression issues his whole life due to a chemical imbalance?
perhaps he reacted badly to a new medication?
you seem to have never known anyone with serious depression issues. its not as simple as telling somebody to get over it.

I'm just glad he didn't take anybody else with him. I don't understand the thinking of taking someone with you if you're going to die anyways. Of course, you're probably not thinking straight if you're killing yourself.

Anyone who knows someone who has depression knows that it is as serious a disorder as it gets. It isn't cowardice, it is an irrational mental illness. Don't pass judgement if you haven't the experience to do so.

I think it is that simple. Granted I haven't had a ton of experience with people with depression. I think there are a lot of very simple things people can do to change their outlook on life. Some people there is no getting through to though.

Just because someone has a different opinion they're flat out wrong. Gotcha.
FWIW I'm not saying just tell them to get over it. I'm just saying there are simple things you can do to help them.

frick him and anyone else who commits suicide!
So many great people struggle to live.

Of the multiple campus parking garages, Northside is the tallest. It's no coincidence that that building has been the site for multiple suicides. Yes, there are many non-parking garage buildings that are taller; but they're not nearly as easy to gain rooftop access.
I agree. Northside Garage continues to be a problem. Won't surprise me at all to see a barrier constructed imminently.
It was a horrible & sickeningly tragic event--for everyone involved.

So wrong on so many levels. You have no clue about that man's life or anyone else that took their life.

Why is it wrong?
It's his life to do with as he chooses. If he doesn't want to live, why should he be forced to?

Anybody who knows an alcoholic or druggie knows it's not as simple as will power. Their brain does not work right. Same with depression.

Brain chemistry is a weird thing, and it doesn't necessarily fix itself. And depression is definitely nothing to mess with. When people are depressed, they'll do things completely out of character.
My thoughts and prayers go out to his wife and kids, as well as other family and friends who are no doubt shocked, saddened and wondering what they could possibly have done to stop him. The guilt of feeling like you should have seen signs, or known he was on the edge, can eat people up inside.
But, as has been said, someone determined to do it will find a way, and at least no one else was hurt.

Wow! Sorry for his wife and children. This will be tough on his students and close colleagues, too. Prayers all around.
