That's not the point. The university should still make an active effort to at least try to combat the problem. It doesn't look very good when 2 people a year are jumping from the same parking garage and the university just accepts it as-is.

the US suicide rate is 12 per 100,000 people each year.

2 is actually below normal rates considering A&M has more than 55,000 people when you combine students and faculty.

I'm fairly sure 2 suicides from a single parking garage per year is higher than average for parking garages.

That's how a man does it. Just jump. Don't take a bunch of other people with you.

if a person is determined to take their own life they are going to figure out a way how.

there are plenty of tall building on campus it could be done from.

its sad but it is what it is.

He was one of my profs. I was a communications major. Kind of a weird guy. Sad.

Dude, if somebody wanted to die, they could jump off one of our parking garages, too. Especially Harmon. That place is a suicide waiting to happen.

ETA: A prof I had in school walked to the spillway at Lake Fayetteville last year at 2:00 am, called 911, and put a bullet in his brain.

Pretty sure she knew the prof, though, and that saddens me.

I don't know if I'd classify that as "manly", but its preferable to going on a shooting rampage or blowing something up in the process.

I've never viewed suicide as cowardice. His children were grown and were no longer dependent on him for support.

He was tired of life, he chose to end it. No fanfare or look at me stunts. Step up and step off.

He also didn't go into a classroom with a gun and force the police to take him out. As a professor, he has ample opportunity to do something like that.

His children are dependent, they are both autistic.

Don't know where this 2/year bs came from. 1 other person, a student, jumped from the same parking garage several years ago.

Had him 2 semester ago. Helped me out on a couple a grades and seemed to be a nice guy, weird as shite but nice. But I have no sympathy for a man who kills himself and leaves a family behind

Agreed. It is what happens when pain exceeds resources for coping with that pain. A man who is lit on fire doesn't stop to think rationally before he jumps into the lake. Thoughts and prayers to his family. Really sad situation.
