I think we can sum up the feelings of Bama & Aggie fans in this thread with these facts:

Texas All-Time Records

vs A&M 76-37-5

vs Alabama: 7-1-1 (Royal never lost to the Bear and even taught him the wishbone).

Forget about politics or arrogance or networks - on the field UT has historically owned both programs. And that is what this tread is all about.

Now that we've settled that - let move on.

In my lifetime:

Texas A&M 17
Texas 16

There it shall remain.

Alabama 1
Texas 0

and of course the important record over the last 3 years:

Baylor 2
Texas 1

Actually, you're right--this thread is about texas' arrogance. Thanks for proving the point

On the field, Minnesota has more national titles than t.u. has. Michigan State has the same number.

Are we really going to argue that the Gophers and the Spartans are better programs?

Funny how you use the claimed NC's of those two teams against Texas, which only claims wire service poll championships.

Also funny is that Minnesota and Michigan St. both lost their bowl game in one of those wire-service NC seasons.

Oh noez! It's a sham! Texas lost their bowl game in 1970 and it doesn't count! But Minnesota's and Michigan's does.

You are a joke.

So I guess you don't want to recognize all those pre-WWI NC's which have recently adorned Kyle field or the more modern one in 1939.

Future big12 champs amirite?

Yeah, he mad.

Sorry, TAMU has taken over the State simply by joining the SEC and leaving Texas to go it alone. Too bad Dodds wasn't so insightful.

How ironic that devout SEC fans prefer socialism over capitalism when it comes to their football.

You realize that sometimes what's best for the group is best for you right? Capitalism does not say this should never happens, it just means that everything is oriented towards acting in your own self interests. Since money is not the only concern here, it is obvious why the schools have banded together. As a group they can exert more influence, provide stability for themselves and likely get more money.

The concept of revenue sharing and combining interests is in no way against the principles of Capitalism.

without context its fair to say 'Bama fans and UT fans behave similarly.

unfortunately, context is everything, and the context is Alabama has been ridiculously dominant the past 4 years of CFB, and UT has been terrible.

only facts can justify arrogance.

The PUF isnt used to compensate faculty, its used mostly for funding construction projects. And UT Austin shares that money with all the schools in the system. Not to mention that UT is 5X the size of Harvard or Yale, therefore vastly more expensive

In 2009 UT Athletic department contributed over 6 million to academics ( the proposed tuition increase was 8 million). Most athletic departments lose money, the fact that Texas can generate money from football is huge, and why would UT pass on 300 mil from espn when Gov Goodhair is at war with the university?

LHN Fund Academic Positions

quote:

One theory is that the governor — an A&M graduate and carrier of the overcompensating inferiority complex that afflicts many Aggies who are tired of U.T. always being first in line — is trying to right the order of things. This take has Mr. Perry and Mr. Sharp, former classmates at A&M, cheerfully tying U.T.’s shoelaces together to allow A&M to take its rightful place at center stage.

NYT: Perry & Powers feud

That's from the New York Times, not orangebloods.

Perry hates UT, and that is a fact that pretty much every level headed person in the state understands... Even the those of us in Dallas.

cardboardboxer,

I stand by my statement, and the rule speaks for itself. If Iowa St. or any other team felt they were getting screwed, then that same rule allows the conference team whose game is sought for broadcast on the Longhorn Network (or any member-affiliated network) to nix the deal.

The fact of the matter is, the Fox sublicensing agreement predated Nebraska and Texas A&M leaving the Big 12, therefore, both of those schools could have conceivably used that agreement to have a second or conference game on its own network.

When Texas and the Longhorn Network originally tried to take advantage of this clause, Big 12 athletics directors (including Texas A&M’s) put in the qualifier that such game had to be agreed on by both teams, and receive approval from the Big 12 conference office.

No one was getting screwed. A&M could have taken the same route as Texas, formed its own network, and under the conference bylaws, put more than one game (including conference) on its own network. A&M chose not to do so. Fine. Bye.

That is the answer I hear from Texas fans when I bring up this point. I expected the discussion to end here like it always does.

"Well if ISU could sign up for the LHN and ESPN's backing they would do it in heartbeat. If they don't like it they are free to leave like aggy did. Big dicks swing aggy."

Which COMPLETELY dodges the issue that the so-called "second best" major conference's primary media deal is used to subsidize a single team network.

And honestly, I don't think EVERYONE would sign up for the LHN like Texas fans claim. I think Bama easily could have something like that, but they felt that screwing over long-term partners and running off historical rivals DAMAGES the football product no matter how much money is made and exposure is gained. USC also decided to share evenly in the PAC rather than create a USC channel, and now it has a decent conference that Texas fans dream of joining.

THAT is what separates a Bama from a Texas.

Don't get me wrong, as an Aggie I freaking love the LHN. All the fricked up machinations ESPN and Texas did to support it drove us off and gave us the political cover to leave.

I mean think about it- Texas traded $15 million a year (not even 10% of total AD revenue) for what was once one of the most dominant positions in college sports. Not UF, nor Michigan, nor USC, nor Alabama kept their primary in-state rival as down as Texas had A&M. Now Texas can't buy that position back for all the money in the world, and because of REAL competition for Texas dollars we might see tOSU pass Texas in the all-important revenue standings in a few years.

Bad business decision if you ask me.

"The University of Texas raised $453 million in one year for academics, while A&M raised at most $496 million (one-third of $740 million).

Wow, in what was probably the biggest year in your school's football history, and with the Texas football team so-so, you eeked out a win. Congrats?"

Are you dizzy from all that spinning? "Stupid aggy! Your best year was only $40 million better than our best year!"

Between Bama and Texas?

9 AP titles to Texas 3.

Or 3 titles since Texas' last one.
