What was the ENTIRE SEC rating across all networks. I will bet vital parts of my anatomy that it was up. Way up.

That would actually be very interesting to see.

Can anyone find that?? I searched and didn't see anything like that.

But all we heard about was A&M's massive alumni fanbase and Texas market.

With Manziel on fire, and playing their only CBS game against the undefeated #1 team in the country in November, I expected to see insane numbers for that game and was just surprised.

But as big as our fanbase is, it still needs a national draw. Not everyone knew about Manziel yet and most people assumed Bama would blow us out (this board for starters).

This year's matchup will get a significant increase in viewers.

No single fan base is so big that it can make that much of a ratings difference.

LSU, Bama, UF, UGA all have fan bases at least as big as A&M does.

Agreed. Which is why I always thought that argument didn't hold water.

So, what exactly was the benefit of expansion then?

I still don't see how whatever benefit we may gain outweighs the negative of leaving the 12 team model.

I still think it was borderline criminal to put LSU vs A&M on at 11am last year.

There are more than enough premium matchups to get CBS the ratings they want.

LSU-A&M
LSU-Bama
LSU-Florida
LSU-Georgia
Bama-A&M
Florida-Georgia
South Carolina-Florida
Iron Bowl
South Carolina-Georgia
South Carolina-A&M? (is that a game this year?)

And others. Ole Miss should be on there once at least, maybe Vandy once.

SECNetwork can charge more to states that have a team.

Bama/A&M was the 4th highest rated game for ALL college games in the entire regular season. Only UGA/Bama, Notre Dame/USCw and Bama/LSU beat it out.

Additionally, Manziel's Heisman campaign wasn't in full swing even then. Amusingly, CBS even showed a graphic during the game about Heisman candidates, and Manziel himself wasn't listed among them.

The Cotton Bowl featuring A&M and Oklahoma trailed only the BCS Championship, Rose, and Fiesta Bowls in ratings. It beat out the Capital One (UGA/Nebraska), the Sugar (UF/Louisville), etc. by a comfortable margin.

I think your expectations may have been a tad unrealistic. And in any event, A&M and Mizzou weren't added for ratings bumps. They were added to allow the forthcoming SEC Network to capture the markets as home territory, allowing the SECN to achieve broad distribution w/ the higher carriage rate.

Not this year, but probably starting in 2014, as they're slated to be our cross-division rival.

I'd just like to point out that I was against adding more teams from the beginning.

You know, tornado fatalities are down a lot in SEC states during the month of April since Missouri joined too.

You're welcome.

Well when you get shown at 11:30iI ddon't know how many times....

When we got our primetime game with bama, we killed it. The cotton bowl was also like the 2nd or 3rd most watched bowl

Expansion failed!

Send Missouri to the Big 10 or Conference USA. They might win a couple of games now.

Send Texas A&M back to the Big 12. This is where they belong. They are to far west and they don't fit in with Southeastern culture. They have their own Texas culture.

SEC goes back to 12 teams. The way it should be!

A&M/USC isn't till next year.

This year CBS also missed the A&M/UF game because it was too early, that would have been a strong ratings game with Gameday there and the first SEC game for A&M. Additionally they didn't show A&M/LSU and went for the Bama/UT snoozefest.

As stated as well, the hype for the A&M/Bama game was modest because Manziel was just getting known and not a serious Heisman candidates with Bama being a heavy favorite.

My guess is A&M is going to be on more this year, even with a weak schedule (Bama and LSU as the only obvious games). Manziel is ratings gold on a national level. Love him or hate him, he's the most exciting player to watch in college football in a long time due to his unconventional style of play and ability to put up crazy stats. After he is gone though A&M should pull its weight just fine and then some though, we have always done well in ratings even when we were down.

The bigger problem last year though was a lack of late season games with a lot of buildup. The rivalry games were all pretty "meh" in terms of hype and really the East and West Divisions were settled mid season.

Mizzou's games against USC and Bama (2.5 and 2.1) weren't great, but also weren't the lowest draws. That honor went to USC/Arky

To be fair in both those games SC was playing teams that didn't go to bowls and were blowout wins so I can't imagine why any non-Gamecock fan would have enjoyed those games.

I still don't understand why this game was hyped so much. You would have thought it was a play-in game - a la Geogia vs. Bama.
