LSU's on a upswing, but Alabama owns the overall pretty laughably.

Besides, LSU's coach has been there 40 years and for 90% of the time, hasn't done anything. Her first SEC title in forever came last year after, A. Georgia's legendary coach retired, Alabama's legendary coach retired and Florida's legendary coach was hired to the US National Team, and she hired one of the assistants responsible for UGA's last epic run.

Now do baseball.

They lead the all time series 196-170-3, but Mainieri is 29-10 against Alabama. Skip was 41-30. Smoke was 11-6. Our baseball team was pretty poor historically before Skip got to Baton Rouge. So I have no problem saying LSU baseball began in 1984. Since 1984, LSU is 81-46 against Alabama (63.78%). Alabama, Miss State, and A&M are the only SEC teams LSU trails in the all-time series record. They are 184-203-1 against State and 20-22-1 against A&M. Pretty impressive for a school that had just 5 total conference championships and 2 NCAAT appearances from 1893-1985.

Is there any sport that LSU owns a head to head advantage over Bama?

Gymnastics. I don’t remember the last time LSU has lost to Alabama.

LSU won 2 SEC games last season and in their 5 SEC wins this season, they have only beaten 3 different teams (have beaten Arkansas and A&M twice). Quite a few teams have 4+ game win streaks against LSU. Oddly enough, Missouri isn't one of them. Missouri actually has a 2 game losing streak and is 1-4 against LSU since joining the SEC, so it may be wise to park the "L5U" talk as a Missouri fan. Just food for thought

FIFY

Not hating, though. Wish Alabama had a similar program.

Instead, year in and year out, Alabama residents spend millions and millions of dollars in neighboring state lotteries, helping fund their scholarships

Most of 1982-2014 is Alabama domination.

TOPS has only been around since 1998. Yes, it helps, I don't dispute that, but our turnaround came with the arrival of Skip Bertman. We had already won 4 national titles by the time TOPS came into existence.

The precursor program that eventually became TOPS started in 1989.

well, if you want to take the year 1989, LSU had already made 3 CWS in 4 years. LSU did not become a good baseball program because of TOPS or any other state funded scholarship program. It begins and ends with Skip Bertman

It and it’s predecessor program has helped immensely. And LSU became a top baseball program because it made a focused effort to dominate at a sport no other athletic departments in the SEC even cared about.
