NC State won 5 times between 1894 and 1955. That's why the series is so lopsided.

I agree with OP on State vs UNC. And this is terms of the institution fit versus fan base. UNC admin and faculty makes UT look moderate in comparison. Would they allow themselves to be associated with Deep South schools. It’s the biggest hurdle.
Hopefully calmer heads prevail and both Virginia and UNC recognize the value in moving their football teams to the SEC. Both programs could recruit impressively with the SEC badge.
I do like Va Tech as an add-on if UVA heads north. It’s what we call the ‘real’ part of Virginia to borrow George Allen’s phrase. Really dedicated football fan base, immersed student body, and some big time national exposure from the Mike Vick era.
North Carolina, Virginia, FSU, and Clemson to get to 20 and May the best conference win

VA Tech could be a decent fit,
but they offer essentially nothing.
Their uniforms are so bad.

Again..........my picks are UNC, NC St., Duke, and Va.
I already feel we have the best football conference in the nation. Some would disagree. With those four, it would not be debatable who has the best bball conference in the nation. It would also open up new tv markets............not to mention the SEC GPA would go up significantly.

Take the average VaTech Fan vs the average Missouri fan…..
Vt fans actually know football.
Mizz fans brag about rocks.

Bad take.
UNC is a huge brand and UVA is a prestigious school in a new TV market. They are definitely the play and then supplement with two more ACC schools if we want to keep going.
Cultural fit doesn’t matter as much as money and tv markets.
In the end money and TV is all that matters to those with the power to choose who we expand with. UNC and UVa will get an invite from both the SEC.
Plus I believe the league will also want to keep the Big 10 out of those markets and I doubt the Big would take State and Tech, leaving any southern schools the Big 10 might target on an island by itself.

Clemson, Nc State, Va Tech would all be a very good cultural fit. FSU would work pretty well too. Those few teams I can live with. The Big 10 or the Big 12 can have the rest.

Clemson, Florida State, and Georgia Tech.
