A bigger factor, imo, is going to be what the B1G does. Some schools like Virginia, Duke, Wake, GT and UNC may identify more with the B1G.

Do you think a Big 12 Network would be successful or would it be DOA? Serious question...

What if the ACC completely crumbles, and we take a school simply to prevent another conference from expanding their footprint?

The SEC normally plays defense, not offense. It was the Big 10 who started the last round of expansion. It will be someone other than the SEC that starts the next round.

Well I just can't explain. 20 years from now things will look totally different. Just like they did 20 years ago. It's a paradigm you can't comprehend right now.

That is something I can completely see. In 20 years cable TV might be mostly dead as a business model, which means streaming services dominate. With a streaming service model footprint doesn't matter, having people who are dedicated enough to pay $20 or whatever a month matters. In that scenario a FSU is worth more than a NC State simply because it has more fans that are willing to pay that money.

So I can see a future where programs within the footprint have value. I cannot see a future where the SEC is the one pushing the new model. We will run the cable model down to the point where it is no longer competitive for revenues, and only move to a streaming model by the time some other conference figures it out and makes more money on it.

So any concept of being proactive today by adding a FSU is very anti-SEC. A FSU or Clemson or Texas will be added only if in the moment of SEC reaction that is the best move. Between now and the death of cable there isn't any reason to make those moves, so frick FSU and frick Texas until we get there.

I thought of that. But once that happens, you'll see a bunch of schools go independent and then they will take care of selling their games themselves.

Footprint is crap you can spew all you want. Check out that ACC footprint and list a single advantage it has brought them. They are left with no identity, no marketable matchups and are the biggest who cares conference even within their members. That's not what we want, gtfo with this NC and VA shite.

I sure am. In the 247 rankings we are yet again above OU and Texas for the 2016 cycle:

Which isn't a shock, we have finished ahead of OU every full cycle since we have been in the SEC (2013, 2014, 2015).

Ho hum, another day at Texas's SEC flagship.

Exactly. Being proactive for that era in this era is a waste.

Texas wouldn't let it happen until the LHN dies. Basically with the current members it would fail anyway. I think there are two likely scenarios with the ACC/Big12 in the shape they are in. Either the SEC will take a one or both VA teams and add OU/somebody else(NOT OSU). Or The Big 12 survives by being pro active and raiding the ACC first starting a chain reaction of SEC/BIG10 taking some more teams. Either way we will end up with 4 power conferences.

There is a 0% chance FSU or Clemson are ever in the SEC

That pisses me off because they can sleepwalk there way to 10-2 every year. They already steal from the state to keep their program alive so who gives a shite if they are solvent or not? They are never gonna rot on the vine like Miami simply because they have the state pols in their pockets.

I think it's interesting that Texas, Georgia, Louisiana, and Florida get their states exclusively

Meanwhile

Mississippi and Alabama have to share two programs each

What other LA school would you want in? None of them are P5 worthy much less SEC worthy although ULM has a decent record against Saban.

Again, FSU doesn't WANT to join the SEC. I know it's hard for some people to believe, but they really really don't. The entire existence of their football program is built on rejecting and hating the SEC.

Looks to me like you're in a freefall from your previous classes and about to get lapped by TCU. We'll finish strong like we do every year don't worry.

Finish strong? A woman beater and a walk on QB are the only things keeping your program above .500.

I don't understand why more people here don't get this. Clemson and FSU don't want to be in the SEC. They have a free pass for one of them to get to the playoffs every year. The winner of their game doesn't have to play another half decent team in their entire conference. The last thing they want to do is to have to play 5 or 6 really hard games in conference a year rather than 1 hard game a year. Instead of both of them going 10-2 or better every year, they'd be 9-3 or 8-4 most years. Why would they want to do that?

We don't want to give FSU any advantage after they chose the cowards way back in the 90's.

They made their bed. Now lie in it.
