We’re not trying to “act” like anyone/anything.
Some of y’all invent scenarios in your heads that flat-out aren’t true.
Congrats on starting a thread that lured just about every faction of poster, btw.
That’s not an easy feat.

I will give an honest appraisal of this topic.

Trolling ON [OFF]

Aggy already had Miami on the books for 2022 and 2023
Bama had no Power 5 opponents on the books yet for either year
Texas had no power 5 opponents on the books for either year

So clearly Bama and Texas could make it work. A&M would've ended up playing Texas and Miami back to back years.

I, along with most non Texans, think it would be great if Aggy and their burnt orange brethren renewed their rivalry. But it's not hard to see why Aggy turned this 2 year offer down. Hopefully they can find a way to play every year. Why that hasn't happened yet is an entirely different topic. But I don't blame Aggy for turning down this particular offer. Texas probably would've done the same if they already had Miami on the books for those two years.

I think it is great Texas and A&M won't play in the regular season. I don't see either team sniffing the playoffs for years, but I am sure they will play in a bowl game soon, and it will be great TV.

If you are going to play that way, I will go too:

Rant Shields [Off] On

Frankly this move by Texas does make me a little “scared” but not because of a single home and home game in the series. It shows that Texas finally has an AD that is worth a shite, and they might actually “be back” when this guy gets to make a head coaching hire. The last AD was an amateur and the one before him was a clown. The new guy looks like the real deal.

He knew we wouldn’t say yes, but by doing this he flipped the narrative in the state and undid some of the recruiting damage that Dodds did by being such an arrogant jerk about the rivalry. Recruits notice these little things, the tone a program sets, and this a much better look for them.

A&M has wasted a lot of time while not having to deal with a competitive Longhorn program in the state, as we haven’t achieved nearly enough to change our program’s fortunes long term since Bama ruined Mack Brown. If we can’t win something big soon a competent coach there could lock down the top kids in the state Brown style.

frick the game, the real competition is for talent and that never ended. That is why they are doing this PR Battle- they are losing on the recruiting trail against Jimbo. They want to shake things up like we did back in 2011.

People want to talk about Jimbo being a big risk, and he is. But it isn’t because of $75 million. It is because the Big 12 GOR window is halfway over, and Texas is one coaching hire away from competency. If we don’t get it right soon we might see our window snap shut as the sport moves to a superconference model were we are in some damn division with Texas again.

Yet, since the playing field was leveled in 1974 - scholly limits, coeds (so we didn’t have to import women from Baylor), voluntary Corps - the series is tied.

Funny how when Texas is not going “Kramer in the dojo” they no longer run up the score. No wonder they want to stay in their “Big fish, little pond” conference.

This would be such a great rilvalry to see. It’s a shame they aren’t willing to work it out.

It is when there are 5 conferences for 4 spots. Half the time, your conference is in the last 20%.

Agreed. We're all in the same game. Amass all the talent you can and compete for the real prize in January.

Texas is a lot like Florida. Loads of talent there to be leveraged by a coach who can land them and develop them. We've seen what happens in Florida when they've got a coach like that.

It will be very interesting to see what happens with the Big 12 going forward and just how long Texas can keep it as their little fiefdom. But so far so good for the Big 12. They are making more money without the Tier 3 media rights than the Pac 12 does *with* Tier 3 media rights:

SEC - 2 teams have made the playoffs with 5 overall appearances. Overall playoff record as a conference is 5-3 with 2 titles.

ACC - 2 teams have made the playoffs with 4 overall appearances. Overall playoff record as a conference is 3-3 with 1 title.

Big Ten - 2 teams have made the playoffs with 3 overall appearances. Overall playoff record as a conference is 2-2 with 1 title.

PAC 12 - 2 teams have made the playoffs with 2 overall appearances. Overall playoff record as a conference is 1-2.

Big 12 - 1 team has made the playoffs with 2 overall appearances. Overall playoff record of that one team is 0-2

Aggies are trying to act like they aren’t on the same level as Nebraska, NC State, MSU, Kentucky, GA Tech, Purdue, Wazzu State, Baylor & other mid tier P5 teams

They have been doing it for years. Apparently when Chris Del Conte proposes a home and home (which is not renewing the rivalry, simply a 2 game set), they decline, so we go out and schedule Alabama. In aggy logic we were just BEGGING at their feet to play.

I think its kind of funny that they declined so Del Conte just decided to go and schedule A&Ms new dad, Alabama.

Is what it is, quite honestly both universities are in a sad state of affairs. Both have astronomically more resources at their disposable compared to TCU and TCU has/is pretty much mopping the floor with us both athletically since conference realignment took place.

The Big 12 is doing fine splitting a deal made when it was a different makeup, but it’s future long term hinges on if if can stay together when the next contract goes out to bid.

Apparently Amazon and Netflix want brands and not conferences and that bodes poorly for conferences without leverage to fight back (namely the B1G and SEC).

16 pages and not a single Aggie fan going after Woodward for turning this opportunity down. Unbelievable and the most Aggie thing ever.

Every single A&M poster the last 5 yrs has been posting incessantly how it was Aggie that was reaching out to UT and they turned them down. That was obviously complete bullshite and a lie.

Pathetic but expected.

It’s great. If you would have told me we would turn down Texas wanting to squeeze us into some shitty slot back in 2012 I wouldn’t have believed you.

I am so glad we are less focused on them overall as a university. We finally measure ourselves by a better yardstick (ie the SEC).
