Given that I doubt Mullen is still in Starktopia in 5 years, a solid 5th in the West. You could easily go to 4th, particularly if the Chizik experience goes south.

3rd/4th in the west, at or near Arkansas. We have a history of upsetting great teams...but we also have a history or blowing easy wins. How we play on any givin Saturday depends on the time of day, humidity, wind, UV, cloud cover, starshine that night, planet alignment, twist on the vertical axis of the milky way, etc.

I think it will take two recruiting cycles to get you to the upper tier of the SEC, so in 5 years I still see you building (middle of the pack). In 7 - 10 years I see aTm consistently contending in the west. I see a LSU rivalry.

The next two years I have a hard time seeing A&M doing anything relevant, beyond that who knows, a lot can happen in 5 years.

A lot has to do with how good or not the rest of the SEC is at that point, and no one knows. Even the top teams right now aren't guaranteed anything.

Before Malazahn left for stAte, I would've said 5-6 in the west, now 4th in the west should be sustainable if aTm can play 4 qtrs.

a&m has the potential to win the SEC and be a real player on the national scene. there is a reason your preseason ratings this year put you in postition to do so. i, for one, believe that y'all can compete w/o the recruiting violations that have plagued you in the past. it's a new day, so to speak. what you need is a coaching staff that can recruit and can coach. that sounds trite but you have not had that in a while. i felt sherman approached recruiting like a task he just wanted to get finished with; like sign 25 guys and let's move on w/o the proper concern for the quality of recruit. joining the SEC may indeed give your new coaches the edge with some of the top recruits in texas. all it takes is a handful of the top guys every year. so, in 5 years i have no idea where you'll be. sorry for the disclaimer.

Winning in the SEC starts with defense. A&M will get better talent now with the SEC slant to the Texas kids. Coaching will determine where you take that talent.

Les Miles will be your coach, and you'll be competing for first in the West.

I think that in 5 years A&M will have possibly elevated its program to near-TCU level, which is something thay haven't been able to do in a decade.

1. Arkansas and USCe both laid a road map for TAMU not to follow.
2. If they continue underpaying coaches (as they showed they will continue to be at the bottom of paying coaches) it might be a longer road to hoe.
3. TAMU and UCLA have ALWAYS had potential.. However, have NEVER lived up to it.
4. Serious question.. Aggies first black head coach, right?
5. Still have a weird military, male cheerleading, farm boy perception outside of Houston.
6. TAMU brags about their $3B endowment yet can't beat out Arkansas for athletic funding..
7. Facilities... TAMU's aren't bad but they are behind OSU, OU, Texas, Arkansas and LSU fighting for the same kids in the same region.
8. Only Petrino has had success with an amazing offense and half a defense to win 10 games in this league 2 years running. We just hired Ohio State's DC for a reason.

These are just facts most of them can change yet I see no indication from the Aggie faithful this will happen. Once Arkansas dumped Nutt we went and paid a coach $3.57M and now are building a $30M football complex.

See the difference Aggies?

I really thought you guys had a chance to make a big move within the conference with a new coach, but your new hire doesn't do it for me.

I am thinking 4th - 5th place in the west on a consistent basis, 7-5 seasons, bowl games every year.

Would only help our Texas recruiting for our Hogs.

Arkansas is now basically surrounded by SEC states.

Arkansas won it's first West title 4 years into the league, so who knows.
