You have to realize that after being the Longhorns whipping boy for so long they cannot change generations of "second place is okay" mentality overnight. A&M is another Auburn. For so long they have been content to try and beat big brother in 1 game out of the season that the big prize is beyond their comprehension. The league now has two bastard step children to baby sit.

I think we proved we're nobody's bastard step-child by telling those arse frickers to enjoy a fat dick.

Oh, and.....29-24...

...but that's just cuz you called us bastard step-children.

What gives you the impression that we do? A nickname? The ideal bowl for us at this point is an undefeated Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl. Not Texas in the Cotton.

I think for A&M fans just the chance to get back into the BCS is the biggest thing. This will be a 10 win year and putting the cherry on top by getting win #11 in a BCS bowl will be big time.

Going into the Cotton bowl and beating a Texas team that everyone I have heard discuss it (i.e. Houston radio) would put A&M at a 15-16 point favorite ... meh who cares.

OU in the Fiesta would be a killer game.

Agreed. Playing those counts does NOTHING for us. Their exposure this year has been gloriously horrendous and I would like to keep it that way. Why give them a high-profile game? They get jack shite from Daddy.

Scoob, i agree with you with everything you said.

I want to frick texas up. But we have been hated on for so long for not going to a bcs bowl since 98. I think its a win-win as long as we take care of bidness in bowl

Completely disagree with you. So you're saying we should want a lower bowl just to play Texas over the Fiesta? Wouldn't that be the definition of obsessed?

We have little to gain by playing them. Not sure if you've noticed but we're already winning the media wars. We don't need to play them. They can continue to play mid major teams in the new Big XII. Doesn't matter to me. I'd much rather ND in the Fiesta if I had my pick.

Well, considering the fact that a lot of your fans still talk about Texas on a near-daily basis, it would appear to most people here that you DO give a shite about Texas.

I agree. And if/when you get there, you'd better beat the ever-loving dogshit out of Notre Dame. I'll be pulling for you guys.

Y'know, there's a lot to say for this. A&M is in the once-in-a-lifetime situation to leave Texas behind, kick their arse but good in a major bowl (and the Cotton is), and then not look back. Moving forward in the SEC, they won't have much time to worry about Texas. Texas on the other hand, might have some trouble convincing kids they're the better school, since A&M is now in the better conference, and A&M would have proven their superiority in their last/final matchup. Makes for a clean getaway for the Ags.

It's a lot more complicated than that. Even a few weeks ago I think that's how a lot of Aggies felt when the Cotton with Texas started to look like a possibility. Then Texas acted like we were just praying for another chance to "bask in their glow" once more. A&M then went on the road to Auburn, Starkville, and Tuscaloosa and not only won but never even fell behind in all 3 games. We achieved our far more important goal of showing we can compete in the SEC and we aren't scared of anyone.

Now after we beat Bama the Texas folks are coming out half begging for the chance to play us and half acting like they are still too big time for A&M. We just don't give a damn anymore. We don't need to beat Texas for validation, we already got that. We have moved on. If the matchup puts us with Texas, so be it. JFF will run up 600 yards of offense on that undisciplined Texas D and put David Ash in a body cast. I'd be fine with that but I would honestly rather go elsewhere. We are an SEC team now in every way. This thought that somehow we need to go back to playing Texas or OU or whomever from the Big 12 just feels like going backwards.

The best way that A&M wins the battle with Texas is ignoring them. We play in a real league now with packed stadiums filled with 100k screaming fans, not modified HS stadiums in the middle of nowhere that they give away tickets with the purchase of a Happy Meal. We want to represent the SEC and will do what is asked but I'd just as soon put a beat down on some Big 1G school or ACC school or Notre Dame than have to play some Big 12 school again. Maybe in a couple years but for now it just feels like going the wrong direction. Realize that even if we beat Texas the story will be "Yep, Aggies still value themselves on how they do against Big Bro" when the truth is exactly the opposite.

Make no mistake either, Texas is deeply regretting not scheduling A&M when they had a chance and it is going to get worse. Folks in Texas are really getting a feel this year about just how much better the SEC is. It's been amazing how many people I know that aren't A&M fans that I've never talked football to that are coming out of the woodwork to talk about the Bama game and Johnny Manziel. Texas simply doesn't have much to sell with the bland Big 12 hung around their neck. Screw 'em.

Good advice!

If the Cotton Bowl is the best Non-BCS bowl available for the SEC when the invites are handed out then that's where we should go and opponent be damned.

If Texas is extended and invitation and declines that's is on them.

I am in agreement here.

Actually if you look at the rant threads that discuss Texas most of the time they are started by Non-A&M fans, like this one.

What an LSU poster starts a thread about A&M and Texas and A&M fans are supposed to not post?

I want ND and to see JFF vs Manti Teo.
DGAF about playing tu. We have played them recently. It sounds like the SEC wants to beat their arse anyway.

Wouldn't it be appealing if UF vs tu matchup with coach Boom beating Mack and that texasss up.

Or Les Eatin that grass up? Seriously...

I've seen quite a few A&M posters talk about Texas, so much so that fans of other teams had to say, "STFU about Texas. You're in the SEC now." I realize this thread is an obvious exception, but since A&M got into the SEC, the rest of us have heard more about Texas than we have since Bama beat them in the NCG.

Why so defensive? I realize an LSU fan started the thread. As a general rule, however, on this board, if Texas is mentioned, it is almost invariably started by an A&M fan.

My original post wasn't an attack toward any A&M fans. Most of us see *some* of you guys posting about Texas pretty frequently, and those are the people I'm talking about when I say, "they'll get over it eventually."

The Cotton Bowl is in a bad spot. With the Champions Bowl stealing its place in life, it might need a life preserver from the Big 12 to survive (as the SEC is full up on bowls).

As we have all seen, pleasing the Big 12 = pleasing Texas.

Therefore if they tell the Cotton Bowl to avoid the matchup, they will avoid that matchup.

Our offer to play them is still on the table. They won't take us up on it as long as they won the last game. That is part of the reason I don't want to play them.

The SEC's partnership with the Cotton Bowl is more important to the Cotton Bowl than UT. If Texas tries to throw their weight against the weight of the SEC, they will find themselves in the Sun Bowl.

No flame. To me, it looks like a setup yall can take advantage of- that little bit of unfinished business.

Re who goes where in the bowls, I can also dig your wanting the Fiesta. To be honest, for LSU, neither Cotton nor Fiesta was what we wanted, so it doesn't make a lot of difference to me. Again, as an LSU fan, I'd like BCS Title game 1st, Sugar 2nd, with Rose at 2-A (it's a just-because type of game). Bowl payout doesn't matter in the SEC, as Kentucky will make what the rest of us do. So beyond that, it's exposure. In a lot of ways, the Cotton gets more than the Fiesta or Orange, being on it's own night, and Fox makes it a big deal.

Cotton definitely trumps what else is below, if Fla wins out.

See, A&M fans, THIS is why you have SEC homers. We've been here long enough to know that playing in the SEC is hell for our respective teams. After a while, you start seeing the Boise St.'s and the Kansas St.'s and the Notre Dame's of the CFB world getting attention for breezing through a BS schedule and you go, "Wait a fricking minute... you're in a weak conference. GTFO of here with that." And it happens every year. And as an SEC fan, you long for the bowl games to prove to the rest of the CFB world that what you've said all year long about the SEC being the toughest conference is true. tl;dr A&M will get there. Once they earn their stripes in the SEC, they'll stop giving a shite about Texas

wow, you really hit the nail on the head. After as few Okie State and Kstate poster came over here after we beat BAMA calling the SEC overrated i told myself " WOW I CAN'T WAIT TO KICK THE shite OUT OF THESE TEAMS"

And that's exactly what I want you guys to do no matter who you face in your bowl. I want you to EMBARRASS them. Destroy them. Humiliate them in front of everyone. Show them who owns CFB. Then chant "SEC" at the end of the game.
