No, they're re-establishing it. ROTC was mandatory at LSU until 1969.

A Corps of Cadets (only 6 in the US) differs from standard ROTC.
LSU's Corps of Cadets is a student organization on campus that its ROTC students belong to. It is not a true Corps of Cadets.
Is LSU attempting to develop a true Corps of Cadets under Title 10 U.S.C. to serve as another Senior Military College? That would be a surprise.

LSU started as a military school. The original campus was modeled after the Virginia Military Institute.
