did Orgeron help shape a loaded roster or was the cupboard left bare for him?

Both lines were very thin on quality depth. (O has addressed this). Skill positions were in mostly good shape.

On the Rant you will find a thread revising the history of those highly rated classes. Which leads me to ask, did Orgeron help shape a loaded roster or was the cupboard left bare for him?

Both of these things are being argued separately by some people with no acknowledgement that the reality is either that he help shape the bare cupboard he took over or that he severely underachieved with a loaded roster.

I believe the truth is in the middle. Les recruited very well for most of his time at LSU; however, in his last couple of recruiting classes there were needs that weren't addressed, in particular the DL. Now, that's not to say there wasn't talent that remained, there was, a lot of it. However, that talent was not balanced throughout the positional units. Orgeron deserves some of the blame as well. He did not sign a RB in the 2017 class and only 1 in the 2018 class. he put all his eggs in the Surtain basket, and when he flipped, we lost out on other CB recruits, so now we have depth issues at that position. Attrition is nothing new at LSU. Whether it be an inordinate number of juniors declaring early or players transferring for playing time, both Les and Orgeron have had to deal with this. And hionestly, while it may happen more at LSU, it's happening more frequently than ever before across the country.

Do I think Orgeron under achieved last year? No. I think LSU finished about where they were expected to finish. They weren't expected to beat Auburn and weren't expected to lose to Troy, but their overall record was about where most expected before the season.

Do I think Miles under achieved while at LSU. Outside of the last 2 years, he did a fantastic job. He just had the misfortune of coaching in the same division as Nick Saban. But he was as successful as any coach not named Nick Saban in this conference.

I didn't like the Orgeron hire, but I, and the rest of LSU fans, have to live with it. The constant bitching of the fan base has become simply juvenile at this point. It is not going to do the program any good for a fan base to act like many have.

Every fan base can take notes on this.

It's therapeutic for me. Laughter is really the only way for me to reconcile the current situation.

EH, I just don't think our current situation is as bad as many make it out to be. Obviously, things can change and I'm taking a wait and see approach, but I'm not ready to burn it all down after a 9 win season.

LSU might as well print this on t-shirts, bumper stickers and the media guide at this point.

Pretty much anyone who has had a head coaching change in the last year or two should realistically have the same approach. I don't see why some LSU fans act so appalled by this notion. Outside of hiring Nick Saban, no coach is guaranteed to be successful at a new school.

Cajun Logic: Its more embarrassing to keep a coach, that lost to a bad coach, than to be the school that kept the bad coach.

Frankly with a situation like Coach O the context matters.

For example, if the point of O is to keep the seat warm with a coach that will do an average job for a low cost until Saban leaves the division then Joe is a genius. Nothing wrong with a stopgap that allows you flexibility to react quickly when Saban is gone.

But if Joe hired Coach O because he really believes he is the best person to coach the program then he is a moron. Full stop.

Same contracts, same coach. All that matters is the perspective.
