Don’t feel bad for byu one bit. Go on a mission trip, that’s your choice. Do it earlier in life, do it later. There’s no given right that you should be able to leave, get a natural advantage due to being older and more mature, and still get 4 years of college.

Hot take but there shouldn't be, life is full of choices and you can't have it all. If you start making exceptions then it's harder to deny someone else's requests.
Pregnancy is obviously a choice outside of exceptional circumstances. Don't want a baby, don't have sex. Deal with it.
Religion is a bit more nuanced, but there are LOADS of things that people CHOOSE to give up for religion. Imo, if you're a dedicated Mormon going on the 2 year mission, that is something bigger than football for you anyways.

The average Mormon Mission is 2 years + training time (3-4 Months)
My oldest brother went on his mission to Europe. I believe it was Sweeden, Norway, or Denmark. I am not sure which one it was.

Injury management will be big. You might see players not push thru some minor injuries for fear of a bigger injury which could cost their clock to run out. If you are in year 4, a big injury can sit you out a year and clock runs out. So is it possible we see more players sit out more games during season to not risk it? Wanting to make double sure its healed?

They're already getting all kinds of legal action from the HS Class of 2022.
The HS classes before them all got 5 years because of COVID. 2023 and beyond get to use this new rule.
Why not just allow the 2022 group as well? It just makes too much sense, so they go and make it harder on themselves.

Sounds like age discrimination to me .. Sport should mirror the student body, if a 50 year old wants to go back and finish years later and go out for football, he should be able to.
ETA: Actually, he was 61 and played at Faulkner State.

Why not? There are already lots of orgs with age limits & maximum ages of entry. Safety is usually the driver, and would be in the case of 15 year old vs. 22 year old football players as well imo.
The law is always complicated, but I believe common sense wins out in the end in cases like this

Yep is possible just not very probable so why limit it? Glad for your friend but I can't imagine what football feels like at 50.... could hardly get out of bed at 16.
