quote:I love how people use this like Arkansas doesn't attack the rim. We shot over 50% from the floor and average the same on the season. We're not some team that just stands around the perimeter shooting jumpers. 11 free throws earned for this team is a joke. We fouled out 4 of Tennessee's players and that is not a bad defensive team. The game wasn't called well. Fans from your own fanbase have acknowledged this. Saying otherwise is just delusion and bias.
We attacked the rim and abused the press often.

Just as an FYI, Arkansas averages 20.4 fouls per game and MSU averages 14.5.

I'm not saying you do those things, you're missing my point. Arkansas is very aggressive on defense, obviously, you pride yourselves on 40 minutes of it. We took advantage of that by attacking the rim and drawing fouls. Go back and look at the stats, look how few assists we had, look who scored our points and how they scored them. Guards driving and drawing fouls or hitting layups.
Saying Arkansas also attacks the basket is beside the point, you aren't playing against the same style of defense.

quote:That's an indication of pace, not discipline. Arkansas' foul numbers are inflated because they push the pace and force more possessions per game thus more fouls/points/shots/etc.. MSU plays slow as molasses if at all possible so obviously their games are going to have less possessions/shots/fouls/etc.
Just as an FYI, Arkansas averages 20.4 fouls per game and MSU averages 14.5.

The refs impacted that game more than they should have. You will never convince me MSU went that entire game the way it was played and only committed 5 shooting fouls. Arkansas took 62 shots and only 15 were 3's. That's 47 shots inside the arc and MSU only fouled on 5 of them? Nah.

I didn't say it was a indication of discipline. It is a raw number. In my opinion it indicates a difference in style (and yes pace), which can explain, at least partially, the free throw discrepancy.

Dude, use your brain. You're driving into an aggressive defender and drawing fouls, it isn't a high % shot if you're getting fouled. Our % was actually worse until late in the game when you had to stop pressuring the guards so much.
You know where Arkansas didn't lead? Statistics that are absolutely critical to beating the press. Turnovers, free throws, offensive boards.

You're driving into an aggressive defender and drawing fouls

By the way, you actually did shoot a ton of jumpers last night. State doesn't give up the inside, it's why teams don't shoot the ball well against us.
Arkansas couldn't have asked to shoot the ball better than they did last night.

Playing a press. Yes you want to abuse it and drive to the basket but you have to kick it out and run offense some too. We took too many 3 balls and didn't shoot them well, but they still serve the purpose of making you defend them.

In the last 2 minutes... I would have to say Miss State. I will say those were some nice shoes Macon was walking around in though.

You took 25 jumpers in the first half.
ETA: Arkansas took 49 jumpers. Almost as many shots as State took in total.

Yeah, no. 40-12 is the refs having a direct 28 point impact on the game. That should absolutely never happen.
Agreed, take it up with your coach

Not even remotely close to what I said. Nice strawman.

Y'all just reminded why I don't watch CBB until March Madness. I actually tuned in for a few minutes starting in the 2nd half and after a foul every 3 or 4 seconds, I went to bed. Rather watch paint dry (or sleep).

You should have stuck with it. It was a really entertaining game.

Maybe if Arkansas wasn't poor they could have paid the refs more than we did. But the bank account gets a bit low when you continuously have to pay the buyouts of shitty football coaches

At least we fire coaches instead of them walking away from our shitty program.

Mike Anderson has to start demanding respect from these refs, he’s too damn soft on them.

From a State fan? Really?
Come on now.
