Home plate ump called him out. Non-reviewable until someone, somewhere decided that it was reviewable, but just this one time.

I remember a 4th down play were the Vols made a close 1st in a scrum with no way to see where the ball actually was or when the runner was down. They ran a quick snap ran a full play and the refs went back and retroactively awarded the ball to the other team after reviewing a non reviewable play with no clear evidence to over turn the call on the field. It sucked. It was in the Pruitt or Butch years.

But this call today was in a game that legitimately doesn’t matter. Why are y’all still bricked up over it?

This game could’ve been a scrimmage and it would’ve mattered more than any Tennessee football game during those years and the vast majority of Tennessee football games this century

I know the Vols have treated this tournament like a scrimmage. I was under the impression the blue bloods were supposed to treat it as such. Is llllllsue really fighting to get that 2 seed so hard that they lose their minds over such a meaningless game?

Jay said they told him it was a catcher balk ...is that different then catcher interference? Maybe that's why the batter being out of the box doesn't matter? I'm just guessing here

They both fall under the same rule in baseball. People usually think of catcher interference if the batter hits the catchers glove.

In this case, the batter was in the box when he started to throw, the pitchers foot was still on the rubber when he tried to throw home, which constitutes a “pitch.” Since the catcher stepped in front of the batters ability to hit the “pitch” it’s a catchers balk, and everyone is afforded the next base, including the batter
