It could be a lot harder on SEC teams due to the conference only schedule. Replacing cupcakes with any SEC team is a more difficult game. Injuries and fatigue will be more. I hope the playoff committee really considers SOS this year. I say this for all of the SEC playoff contenders.

I think in a year of conference only schedules, the SEC champ and Big Ten champ are probably assured a playoff spot. So is Clemson if they go undefeated. That’ll just leave the Big XII and PAC 12 slap fighting for the last spot.

If it is Ohio State, Alabama, Clemson, and Oklahoma it will count

Because that is all it ever really was anyways

Take the top 4 from the power 5 and play your playoff.

I have actually always been a proponent of 8 teams and I feel that the five Power 5 conference champs should get an automatic bid with 3 wildcards. That would make winning your conference even more valuable and would also make each conference championship game a defacto playoff game.

Even if people are against wildcard teams, then the five P5 champs should get in with the 4th and 5th seeds playing a playin game.

More teams with a playoff chance late in the season increases national interest greatly.

And before someone says they don't want a 4 or 5 loss conference champ to make it, who really cares? They will probably lose the playin game anyways. If they don't, many people love an underdog story.

As far as those that will complain about watering down the playoffs, you are still only talking about 5-8 teams out of more than 65.

I prefer 8 teams because it truly gives great teams a chance to bounce back from one bad game and gives the G5 teams at least a chance. I would make a stipulation that one of the 3 wildcard berths go to the highest ranked G5 champ if they meet one of two requirements...either be ranked in the top 12 or be ranked higher than one of the P5 champs.

Again, more teams with a legitimate chance, more interest nationally.

Mizzou sweeps everyone for the championship. Gets an asterisk. No one recognize it.

It’s the Mizzou way.

I couldn't disagree more. I would argue that if an SEC team wins it after playing 10 SEC games in one season for the first time ever, they may be one of the most deserving ever.

Maybe an even loftier goal would be to be able to claim winning 10 SEC games and an 11th one in the SEC CG, in a season, if someone did it.....that'd be impressive, especially if the team that did it is not handed a couple of rent a wins with the 2 additional games in the conference.

Let say that South Carolina inexplicably runs the table and wins the SEC championship game this year...obviously wont happen but lets say they do...and get LSU and Alabama in the extra 2 games and Beat Auburn in the SEC title game. Again, won't happen, I don't even know what their schedule in the west would be normally this year, but lets say they beat everyone in the east, there scheduled teams from the west as well as Alabama, LSU and Auburn....that would be some historic shite and arguably more impressive than winning a national title with a couple of rent a wins on the schedule, a week west SEC schedule of say Arkansas and Ole Miss and winning the first round of the playoffs against an overrated big 12 team and then winning it all against an overrated big 10 team or Notre Dame....winning 11 SEC teams would be some impressive shite by anyones standards....and it could well happen this year.

Who has a shot? Bama, obviously, they'd be favored against everybody. LSU wouldn't be shocking. UF and UGA both have a shot but it would be somewhat surprising as would Auburn to a greater extent. Imagine if fricking TAM were to do it???? We would never hear the end of that...and it is not out of the realm of possibility but HIGHLY unlikely. It would be unthinkable for anyone else to do it with Tennessee being the less unthinkable of that group.

In all seriousness...Bama, LSU, UF and UGA all have a legit shot at doing something special that may never be repeated again...if someone does the shite talking will NEVER end LOL...

It obviously will not officially have an asterick, but no matter how you slice it this will always be looked at as a “weird” season if it plays out with limited fans, limited schedules, and some players sitting out and potentially some more cancelled games.

While a national champion may very well be crowned, that champion won’t be looked back on with the same clout/prestige as previous champions IMO.

You NAILED the reasoning behind the question!

But you won't hear the debates of "10 game season winner vrs. 12 game season winner"?

Think of my post like this: Should Barry Bonds be the MLB home run leader when we know he "took stuff" to beef up?

Also, it's been thrown out there that this year tests the SEC (& others) for more conf. games each season.

But say the ACC stays @ 11 games & FSU (for ex.) goes 11-0. UGA, being in the SEC, goes 10-0. Does FSU's extra win give them an edge?
A reg. season would have both 12-0.

ACC, as of now, still has an 11 game schedule. SEC 10. Does that 1 boost the ACC's resume?
