UT was picked to finish 2nd in the east this past year. Any idea where they ended up?

Not really but tRant always says so and we all know that the collective wisdom of tRant is always spot on, nay superior, to any pesky fact or argument otherwise.

Opened link and article has TENNESSEE #7, not #4, as does Super Early Top 25 Preseason Poll 2016

College Football Rankings 2016 Way-Too-Early Top 25

7. Tennessee Okay, Tennessee, now there’s absolutely no excuse. Butch Jones has had more than enough time to put everything in place, and now he has the team to be a legitimate threat for the national title with almost all the skill players back including QB Josh Dobbs, RB Jalen Hurd, and most of the top receivers. With the expected rise of star DT Kahlil McKenzie, the defensive front seven should be a brick wall. Now all the experience has to translate into production.

Alabama should be in the top 5 every year when Saban is returning. Probably won't win the NC next year just because its hard to repeat but number 7 is to low.

There has been hype about Tennessee since the season has ended, that isn't sudden.

Ole Miss returns enough we should probably be in the top 15. However I would prefer us work our way up and not down.

September is going to be rough, Georgia, Bama and FSU. We sweep those, we would be top 5 no matter where we started. Lose 2 or more we will have to work our way back into the top 25. Our pre-season ranking will not matter.

We got news that 2 (likely 3) of our potentially exiting players were coming back, and we hired an excellent DC

Is LSU the SEC's version of chokelahoma for these polls?

Sure, I understand why there might be even more hype now but my point was that Tennessee has been getting positive recognition as soon as their bowl game ended. I'm not saying its not deserved or the hype is misguided. Just pointing it out to someone who thought it was sudden.

To be honest, UT fans (and anyone else paying attention) have known that 2016 will be the perfect storm year for a couple seasons now.

I agree, the schedule and roster should equal success. I have said before that I don't see how Butch doesn't get at least 9 wins next year in regular season.

The bar next season is the East division title. Anything less than that is underachieving
