I'm about to get blasted by the pigs but in no way shape or form is Petrino the 2nd best coach in the nation. The notion itself is laughable.

all you lunkheads need to read the article. its not who is the best, its who would you want to be in charge of the restoration of your program over a 5 year plan....

and to say that what CBMFP has accomplished at Arkansas in four years is anything short of a miracle considering what Nuttsack left, you are exhibiting a supreme lack of intelligence

ok. Still wouldn't take that cocksucker. And he's still not No. 2 There's one reason that he hasn't won a championship and he refuses to change it. His defense fricking sucks. And then he hires this new guy who claims Ark will continue to run a lot of nickel. Good idea against LSU and Alabama.

Surprised at the number two ranking for Petrino. Been a fan of his for a while and would have him number two, just thought I was the only one outside of Arkansas. Tough break for him that he has to go against Saban each year, to his credit he hasn't packed up and ran away like some guys have done. Which leads me to the #3, Meyer. Am a big fan of his also, but until he shows his mental/physical problems are behind him I would move him down the list some.

then i guess Arky winning the SEC is on par with Jesus rising from the dead to be seated at the right hand of the Father.

What would be winning the MNC?

I keep hearing this. His last 2 seasons he went 10 - 4 and 8 - 4. Winning the west in one and a 3rd place finish (where CBP always ends up) in the other. Nutt left CBP in fairly good shape.

Petrino doesn't get players good enough to win ships.

avg class ranking on rivals during the Petrino era at Ark:

Alabama: 1.8
LSU: 8.6
Ark: 31.8

No, I'm not a huge Nutt hater but he left us screwed. Those 10-4 and 8-4 seasons were filled with upperclassmen and the best backfield in the NCAA.

Nutt left almost no linemen or skill players. Look at our roster Petrino's first year, we played the most freshmen in the SEC and there is a reason for that. If Nutt coached in 2008 we would've been worse than 2011 Ole Miss, and we would'nt have been much better in the following years due to several players not committing until Petrino was hired (Mallett, Wilson, Joe Adams).

If this guy didnt have to play Saban and Miles every year, he might be #1.

Guess he's just lucky and winning with Saban's players. Thank God for 8th year Seniors.

So the 2nd best coach in college football, can't get 5 star talent, coach any defense, or finish better than 3rd in his division. Seems about right...

Normally I like your posting and I don't expect you to know every little detail about our program but this is a very misinformed statement. Our program was in shambles when Petrino came in and then you throw on going from a power run system to a passing system and you just had a recipe for disaster.

5-7
8-5
10-3
11-2

In the hardest division of the hardest conference in the nation. Every year we've had to play the national champion, and we've had to play teams that were in the national championship 5 times over that 4 year period.

We are also in arguably the worst recruiting location of any team in the SEC.

Homerism aside, I really don't see it being that crazy to put Petrino that high. Honestly, can any of you confidently name off a list of coaches that could have done what Petrino has over the same period in Arkansas?

Off the top of my head, I have:

Saban
Meyers
Peterson (maybe)
Kelly (maybe)

I just don't think Miles would have the success he has had at LSU at Arkansas. He just doesn't have the offensive mind that Petrino has, which is necessary to compete with teams that have bigger, more athletic players. He wouldn't have the luxury of getting the top defensive recruits or the big, athletic offensive lineman he enjoys coming out of Louisiana. He would have a much more difficult time running his running game.

Miles at #9 is low. He's a top 5 coach based on his recruiting, talent development and success - much in the face of severe criticism, negativity and unfair expectations. His occasional on field gaffes should not cost him this many places.
