To be fair, the 2000 Miami team was screwed by the BCS.

How? Yes they finished with the same record as FSU and beat the seminoles, but using that same logic, Washington should have gotten into the title game against Oklahoma. After all they finished with the same record as Miami and beat the Hurricanes.

You really need to stop trying to apply what programs are now to what they were in 1995

I’m not.

I would rather have played at Kansas and Kansas State in 1995 than Bryant-Denny, Jordan-Hare, Neyland.

Kansas and K-Stste aren’t top ten teams if they’re in the SEC in 1995.

And the only reason they got 2 was the punt went over Jeff Ferguson’s head just a bad snap and he was smart enough to take a safety then give up a TD.

In Bryant Denny, Alabama struggled against Southern Miss 24-20, and lost to Arkansas

The West champion (Arkansas) lost to SMU, a team that finished 1-10

Then you clearly know nothing about what Bryant-Denny was like in 1995.

ETA: I swear...you're still trying to equate what these conferences were like in 1995 with what they are like today. It doesn't work that way. Football has changed dramatically since then and so has the balance of power in the sport.

Ha! Now that was an oversight. I should have said Legion Field.

Look, you guys can champion the 1995 Big 8 slate (headlined with the long list of All-Americans and future College Football Hall of Fame inductees off the ‘95 Jayhawks) all you want, but I lived through that era and the conference was a joke.

And yes, I would rather be an undefeated defending national champion going to play at Kansas (even if they might have been a little better) than somewhere like Jordan-Hare Stadium and deal with Auburn’s voodoo shite. Programs that have hostile stadiums and fans that actually care about football are a lot more likely to spring an upset.

I still contend that ‘95 Nebraska (while certainly great and arguably the GOAT) had it easy. Only 12 games in the last season of a shite conference full of teams they beat 50-0 for decades, archrival at a low point, no conference championship (which cost them in ‘96 against a mediocre 8-5 Texas team), no playoff, and (unlike previous years) no bowl opponent with the personnel and experience to defend their unique offensive style.

Yes, they beat the shite out of a Florida team that was young and not ready for what it was up against and that game probably went about as badly as it could have for them. And sometimes bad situations snowball and the difference between two teams isn’t as significant as it seems. Florida was actually leading at the end of the 1st quarter when a holding penalty on a significant Wuerffel scramble backed them up to the GL and a safety opened the flood gates.

The very next year Florida beat FSU 52-20 in the Sugar Bowl after losing to them a month earlier.
