His public stupidity is pretty obvious. Anytime anyone starts talking about the GOAT and LSU, besides Nick Saban’s run at ‘Bama. Look at the incredible Oklahoma teams from 1953-1957, a 47 game winning streak. 2000-2003 University of Miami 30+ game winning streak, Texas’ 30 game winning streak. These were all in the days when a linebacker or DB didn’t get ejected for bitch slapping a QB, RB or WR.

I'm old enough to remember the previous decade.
Man, those were some good times.
Hope LSU remembers their crown as fondly as Tennessee remembers their 1998. That was a good decade too.

their defense is among the worst defenses to ever win a national championship.

You should watch football from time to time.

This is such a casual take. The team that won LSU the title(SEC championship and playoff games) had an elite defense. They absolutely shut down Georgia, Oklahoma, and Clemson. Clemson scored 8 points after they went up 17-7 and that’s a massive reason they won the title game.

I get Bama fans don’t know what it looks like to shut down Trevor Lawrence.

Greatest offense I have ever seen, no doubt about that, imo

Defense left a little to be desired.

Definitely not the GOAT of. college football national champions

Especially love the Bama fans crying about 2020-the asterisk year of all asterisk years- when they played nothing near the schedule LSU played in 2019.

We don't cry about 2020, we celebrate it, much like LSU fans celebrate 2019, as you should...

In 2020, Bama played an all Power 5 13-game schedule that included 11 SEC teams...the only two SEC teams we didn't play were the two worst in the conference that year. There were no cupcakes on our schedule...

Here's what Bill Connelly said about the COVID year and 2020 Bama compared to 2019 LSU:

Slap whatever disclaimer you want on this: This was a pandemic season; everyone played a different number of games; depth charts were randomly wiped out by COVID-19 issues (in addition to all the normal football issues a team has to deal with -- injuries and whatnot). Feel free to apply an asterisk to everything we saw this season; I can't stop you. But Alabama dealt with all of those issues, right down to losing two key offensive stars to injury (wide receiver Jaylen Waddle and center Landon Dickerson) and, for a spell, losing their head coach to a positive coronavirus test. The Crimson Tide played more games than any team this season and more SEC games than any team has ever played in a season, and they not only went unbeaten, they won all but one game by more than 14 points.

This fall, with Sarkisian calling the plays and adding an extra layer of tweaks, fakes and eye candy to the proceedings, Alabama's offense was just about perfect. Even more so than the last perfect offense we saw: 2019 LSU.

Despite playing two more games against SEC foes and avoiding any nonconference cupcakes, Alabama posted numbers that either matched or topped those of the magnificent 2019 Tigers attack.

Points per game: 2020 Alabama 48.5, 2019 LSU 48.4
Yards per game: LSU 568, Alabama 542
Yards per play: LSU 7.9, Alabama 7.8
Success rate (no garbage time): Alabama 59.3%, LSU 57.4%
First downs per game: Alabama 28.1, LSU 27.9
Third-down percentage: Alabama 58.9%, LSU 49.7%
Total QBR: Alabama 95.9, LSU 94.7

Connelly's no Bama fan and neither are the ones who run the other ranking systems mentioned in my previous post. So no, it's not just Bama fans thinking 2020 Bama has an argument for best team, several analysts think that as well despite COVID...

You beat me to this OlePete, and I'm a ms state fan. LSU fans are quick to crown the 2019 season, and it is without a doubt among the top seasons in college football history, but several others belong in the conversation including Bama 2020.

I ran several of the same numbers, and then focused on Mac Jones vs Joe Burrow. Joe was phenomenal; looks he's going to trend that way in the pros, but Mac was too. By comparision:

76.2 vs 77.4 comp %
5671 vs 4500 yds
10 td/int ratio for both

Differences come in several instances:
Joe threw 4 more attempts per game
LSU passed 35/gm vs 25 rush/gm
Bama passed 31/gm vs 36 rush/gm
LSU rushed for 2168 yds (non qb) for 26.4% of the O
Bama rushed for 2393 yds (non qb) for 34.6% of the O

And this happened in 2 less games without having non-conference teams they out-classsed by leaps and bounds. 2020 Bama would have rolled everybody and given 2019 LSU a run for their money and I wouldn't be surprised at whatever the outcome of that hypothetical.

While I didn't follow at the time, I looked up the 1995 Nebraska team. They flat out dominated everyone and only played one cream puff in Universtiy of the Pacific.

LSU, Bama, and any team with an amazing season needs to be content with being among the top class of seasons. Way to difficult to call anyone of them the absolute GOAT with any objectivity.

I wanted to mentioned this game. That was a sophomore or freshman Bo Nix who was still adjusting. And LSU offensive line had to hold on for dear life, literally, against that Auburn defensive front. If it wasn't at home for LSU, there'd have been way more holding calls that game.

I mean, their offense had their PPG total eclipsed the very next year by a team who only played P5 games, and their defense is among the worst defenses to ever win a national championship.

Congrats on winning the ultimate asterisk year. So many good players opted out.

Your right, maybe Alabama would have won if they didn’t have Tua, Ruggs, Jeudy, And Willis holding them back in 2019.

As for our offense in 2019, Tua wasn't 100% in that game and the Devonta Smith/John Metchie tandem put up much better receiving numbers in 2020 than Ruggs/Jeudy in 2019. Mac's 2020 numbers were distinctly better than Tua's numbers in 2019 and while Najee Harris was good in 2019, he was much better in 2020. than he was in 2019. Our OL was more sound as well...

In 2020, Bama won every offensive award other than the one for tight ends (the Johnny Unitas, O'Brien, Biletnikoff, Doak Walker, Outland, Rimington, Joe Moore, & Jacobs Blocking trophy), not to mention the Heisman, Maxwell, Walter Camp, Paul Hornung, and multiple other PotY awards for Smith. Bama also had 5 consensus All-Americans on offense (4 unanimous) and 5 offensive players taken in the first round of the NFL (and a 6th in the early second round). We had no consensus All-Americans on offense in 2019.

Also in 2020, Najee Harris and Devonta Smith became the first teammates in CFB history to each score 25+ TDs and Mac Jones broke Colt McCoy's comp % record, Joe Burrow's efficiency record, and Kyler Murray's total QBR record for a single season. Do you still think the 2019 Bama offense was better than 2020?

As for our defense, in 2019 we started two true freshmen MLBs all year due to season-ending injuries during fall practice. In 2020, we added Will Anderson, Surtain was a unanimous All-American and the best CB in CFB (we had no consensus All-Americans on D in 2019), and Christian Barmore came into his own. In particular, Barmore & Anderson were playing lights out by the latter part of the season. Our 2020 defense finished the season 7th nationally in defensive efficiency while our 2019 D finished 10th...

Both 2019 LSU and 2020 Bama fielded historically great teams in those seasons, dunno why folk can't just leave it at that. But if you think 2019 Bama was better than the 2020 version, you're bats...

This I did not understand in that title game. Lawrence didn't start looking at whoever (Higgins, I think) Stingley was covering until it was too late. They were force feeding Ross, when Higgins was capable of beating Stingley. The jig was up anyway when Brady realized Clemson had one-on-one coverage somewhere on every play, but Lawrence avoided Stingley even in one-on-one scenarios. Big mistake.
