So if this year doesn’t matter, what exactly are we supposed to use as evidence for predicting next year?
TCU was in the national title game last year...how has that worked out for the Big 12 champ this year?

But you certainly nailed your Alabama vs Texas prediction earlier this year, so I’m sure you’re right…
Congrats on the best Texas team in years beating the worst Bama team in years.

K State won the Big XII last year.

Is it really a stretch to think that Texas could lose 2-3 games next year and end up 4-5 in a conference of 16 teams?

OU is kind of hard to get a read on. Venables looked like a complete failure last year, but it was admittedly a tough situation. This year of course they look like the total opposite... so far, and after having played only one really challenging game. Which is the real OU? I'm not ready to make a determination yet.
Certainly both OU and Texas look like they're going to be tough outs in the SEC, and I don't think anyone has ever said different. It isn't that those two teams can't compete. It's that they have never been pushed as hard as an SEC schedule will push them. A&M and Missouri have both competed, for the most part, but neither have actually won shite. Can either Texas or OU? Remains to be seen.
Its a few answers.
Tx has more talent right now but OU has some good coaching and more talent on the way. I never pegged this year as a title team but heart can take you a long ways. But they could still stumble along the way.
Last year was tough losses not blowout losses (except tx with no qb). OU had no viable backup qb a year ago. So OC had to take QB run option off the table. This made their offense one dimensional. And meant too many forced passes as well. And many drops. And just hurt what Lebby could scheme.
You also had a D with the leftover Grinch players. So Brent had to try and teach them his complicated system. A few problems tho. Players who are not the “type” needed in his sysyem and no one on the field who knew it prior. That created so many D lapses as Brent needs on field coaches.
This year is so different. 5*+ backup QB who I feel could start right now but Dillon has played great to keep job. New WR coach who has completely turned that room around. It only takes a few drops to cost a game yet if one only looks at stats they won’t know. Catch rate is way up this year. That means qb is more trusting of making passes plus OC can add more scheme/plays to book.
Then on D, BV has brought in the 23 class plus worked the portal hard to find his style players. And now its taking hold. LB Stutsman is on the Butkus watch list and now in 2nd year of new system, so you have a coach on the field so to speak. For example our first INT he made a call and that put certain players in certain positions based on what je saw from tx - and one of those players made the first INT. Brent didn’t have that last year. Still lacking some players but now BV will have on field coaches (so to speak) that even as we lose players to NFL, the ones staying will know system to help the freshman or portals. Can’t stress enough how complex his D is to learn. BV even said he had to make it more simple last year to help out.
We lost 4 games by 3 points and that 6-7 could have been 10-3 with just one more play each loss. It was that close and showed the potential.
Thats why I’m not surprised. We still have work to do and we’ll see how they come back in 1.5 weeks. LB Stuts already told players that nothing has been achieved yet, and more work is ahead.
Anyways, its not unexpected by fans who follow closely. But most outsiders only see the records and make assumptions.
I feel we are slightly ahead of where I thought we’d be when he took over. It was a complete mess that prior staff left. BV has done an impressive job so far. One last note, BV is 100% a company guy. He knows that once he took HC job his titles as DC go out the window and his legacy that will be remembered most will be as HC. And he’s putting he work in to be worthy of it so far. This is not a stepping stone its his final job. His kids were born here too, so its home even after he quits coaching. Those type coaches just glseem to get more out of players than transition coaches who have less investment.

didn't want to play an SEC team that wasn't completely depleted like LSU was the year before in a lesser bowl game? makes sense

National Championships this century...
Bama-5
LSU-3
UF-2
UGA-2
Auburn-1
13 of 22 have been SEC...so there is good reason for the SEC to chant SEC

Yep, preparing for the draft. We only play for championships.

My way of thinking has changed somewhat. Texas and Oklahoma in the trenches have at this point what it takes to compete in the SEC. However I will reserve judgment until they make one trip around the league.

Anybody that thought Texas and Oklahoma would come into the conference and just lay down was being naive. Them joining is good for the conference because it just means more great games.
Well said.

But it will be more enjoyable.
I disagree.
Just like Missouri now, Texas and Oklahoma will feel like non-conference opponents for a long time. While it’s fun to get up for a non-conference challenge once a year or so, what makes CFB enjoyable is the familiarity of rivalry between the regional opponents.
An Auburn season without LSU or Georgia isn’t really a season. It’s already bad enough rarely playing Florida. I can’t imagine how lame it will be when we get a year of Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Kentucky, and South Carolina with no LSU, Ole Miss, Georgia, or Miss St on the docket.

This year your second best team got beat by the second best team in but 12 by 10 points on their homefield …. Some of you are delusional .

Yeah, some liberal Texas students had a gay arse rally years ago but it lives on in your head EVERY SINGLE DAY.
It lives on at the UTrans campus. The university immortalized the Dildo Rally by placing a dildo in the Student Activity Center. They even nicknamed it Big Boy. It is still on display today.
Here is a link to the story in the newspaper
Big Boy on display
WTH is UTrans thinking displaying that in a building on campus?
