1. There are other teams that could win out that could jump Alabama due to being undefeated, having a conference title, and generally better record strength

2. If Ole Miss wins out Alabama does not go to the SECCG and will most certainly not be in the playoff at all, let alone 3rd.
The odds of Bama getting left out of the playoff if they win out are astronomically high.

But in reality -- it's about money and ratings. If LSU and Bama didn't play this coming saturday then both teams would not be ranked in the top-5. They overrank one or both teams leading to big matchups and the loser drops regardless -- problem solved.

The "would likely beat teams in front of you" argument is retarded. Football is about matchups. TCU may be able to beat Alabama 75% of the time, Alabama may be able to beat LSU 75% of the time, and LSU may be able to beat TCU 75% of the time. Those teams are ranked #4, #5, #6 -- who gets left out? The #6 that matches up well against the #1 seed? The #4 team gets bumped because they match up poorly against #3?

This is why resume and achievements are key. Something the committee is largely ignoring in their first poll.

Money and ratings are not an issue. This is not ESPN. And resume is all they look at. Any other argument is just stupid. But in my opinion they will rank a CC a lot higher than they should or than my Bama buddies are expecting. Its just one game but we saw what it did to the Big 12 for their 1 loss teams last year. UF, Baylor, and Stanford have a chance to jump us if they win out. OM does not cause they have 2 losses.

Sounds like people are taking these rankings way too seriously.

1. Bama is a little high in my book. I was thinking 6 or 7 for them . Pretty obvious by their ranking that the Ole Miss loss was looked into heavily and they felt "Bama beat themsleves".

2. Fully expected either TCU or Baylor to be in the top 4. The committee, at least in this first release dont like the fact that both teams cant play defense and it doesnt help that Baylor just lost their starting QB.

3. Stanford is way lower than I thought they would be.

4. Ole Miss has zero chot of playing for the National title. Even if they win the SEC, they are to too far behind and the team in front of them play each ther. They will get a bump, but still be behind the winners of those head to head contest

5. Danny Kannell and Dan Wolken went into cardiac arrest last night over the rankings. Someone check on them fellas to see if they are ok

frick THAT.

Here are the FACTS:

1) Bama lost at home to Ole Miss by 6.

2) UF, at home, destroyed Ole Miss by 4 TDs.

3) UF's only loss is on the road by 1 TD to a team currently ranked higher than UF, Bama, and Ole Miss.

Basically ... what this means is that Wins and Losses actually matter for some teams ... and, evidently, not for others (looking at you, Bama and Notre Dame).

Their best win is at home against 18. Our best win is 19 away. We have more quality wins then they do. Both have one loss.

Wait a minute now, in 2011 it was only about quality of loss. OSU had the quality wins, but quality of loss was by far the only metric that mattered. What changed?

We changed the selection process since 2011 because of 2011. If you want to accuse me of moving the goal posts you have to show how my argument changed since Dec 2011.

Look, with what the comittee told me last night Bama should be ranked #4 come Sunday even if LSU beats them. Because that will be a tough loss and they would still have the "most talented" team. I just dont think that is how sports are supposed to work

Looking at the rankings of the undefeated teams. TCU (rated 8) strength of schedule is higher than Ohio State (3), but TCU is ranked #8. Michigan State strength of schedule is higher than Ohio State, but is ranked #7. Yep, that makes sense...

So, the bias in not just on the SEC - Ohio State has some serious bias as well. They haven't played anybody...

That is everyones point. They pick and choose what criteria to use in order to support their bias. I mean just listen to Jeff long, at one point they use SOS, then they jump to actual wins and losses, etc etc. They arent consistent which means they are purely picking who they "think"is better or who they subconsciously like more rank these teams, and then they plug and play what ever reasoning works with no consistency.

You don't think sports should work like your whiny straw man? You sure?

I think the results should matter. 100% if the committee stays consistnet Bama should not drop if they lose a close game Saturday.

ETA: In honesty I may respect them more if they didnt drop Bama. By dropping them they prove they have no true fricking thought process at all to their rankings

The results have mattered. For every game. That's why we are 4 and Florida is not. You're complaining about consistency in the first poll of the year. Obviously Alabama will drop if they lose as they should.

Tried to warn people about this shite when everyone whined about a "playoff" ... waters down the regular season.

Losses don't mean near as much as they used to.

You all are so simple....Jesus H Christ. There WILL be 1 loss teams in the playoffs and probably at least two of them, hell if not three of them before its all said and done...stop clucking like hens and wringing your hands.

There is still a lot of football left and conference championships to be played. Undefeated teams will fall, its a given. LSU loses to Bama doesnt mean they are out of it. Bama could beat LSU and then lose a second game. LSU will not fall far if they lose to Bama, it wont be the end of the world.

Thats why college football is the best. Teams only have to win out and thats easier said than done.

I love how many posters go insane about these rankings, half these teams play each other so they will knock themselves out, plus there is sooo much football to play. Just relax and let it play out.

I keep reading this, but I have yet to see people going insane about the rankings.

Are there some LSU fans that absolutely dread the idea of running into Bama in the playoffs?

Yes, why shouldn't they?
