The sport has already been ruined. It started when people started going to courts to circumvent the NCAA back in the 2000's, this was always going to be the end result.

I'm still not understanding all the moaning and groaning about this.
To my knowledge, this only applies to the handful of athletes from the 2022 class that got shafted due to the implementation of the 5 for 5 rule being AFTER declaration for and the actual draft.
This going from an UDFA release player from an NFL pre-season roster, only applies to the 2022 class that would have had eligibility had the NCAA instituted the 5 for 5 rule prior to those players declaring for the draft (as they technically didn't have eligibility prior to the rule).
To my knowledge, this doesn't apply to ANYONE else but those players.
ETA: Players who left early but still had eligibility, don't qualify to come back.

It goes beyond football for me. Lots of students athletes in other sports that don't make big nil got fricked.

I do agree that's awful for them.
The NCAA should have just allowed this to happen from the get go (for the 2022 athletes) and just moved on. Not doing so has caused all this legal action by the athletes.

It's a demonstration that as long as you have a player who is willing to go to the school and a school that is willing to accept them, any other rules are null and void.
It's just another step in the ladder and before long we'll have players who have been playing college football for 8+ years etc. Play for a pro team for 3 years, get cut and then claim you are being denied money by the NCAA to get the TRO. All you need is one judge to approve it, and then suddenly the entire sport is open to it.
Unless we at some time get to a point where the NCAA is allowed to enforce its own rules.
And when they start letting pros in next year and other things, people will use this event as justification for it.
How many times do we need to see the same pattern before we recognize it?

Of the 1100, any of those who played college football last year would likely be available. Unless they had already played five (or 6 years) years.

This all started with money. While as a fan, college ball was better and more fun to watch prior to the NIL era in my opinion; However, as an objective viewer, there was no reason for these conferences and the NCAA to be profiting hundreds of millions of dollars while the athletes bringing in the money were tossed crumbs. (And yes, college tuition, books and room/board are crumbs compared to what the NCAA and these conferences were raking in).
All the while, players get suspended for accepting a free $40 hair cut, or a free meal, etc... NCAA blundering as per usual.

The current legal issues only apply to the class of 2022. Again, the NCAA stepping in it by not just letting these 16 players who wanted to stay in school but couldn't because they implemented the 5 for 5 rule a mere 3 weeks after the draft. They simply allow it, people gripe for a year, but all this legal bs goes away.
Turning a blind eye to the Chambliss debacle is also a bad look for the SEC as a conference considering the stance they are taking on LSU. (which is also ironic, considering how many of the SEC programs were going after the same/similar players and will actually do so now that the courts have ruled).
