Was in the stands and I really thought Brandon Harris was leading us to the comeback :-(

Not gonna lie, I was crapping my pants when LSU started making a comeback in the 2nd half after we started playing conservative after taking a big lead.

As a decades long MSU supporter, I can honestly say that mid season ranking meant absolutely nothing to me and I wish it never happened. I knew it wouldn’t age well. If we had been ranked #1 in November - different story. But up to that week of being ranked #1, all I thought we had done up to that point was win games we should have won. When the schedule got tougher, we folded like a lawn chair.

I don't know man

That was the first ever college football playoff ranking. And it didn't include Bama or LSU or Oregon or Ohio State. It was a big deal at the time for MSU , Ole Miss and the state of Mississippi.

What was the atmosphere like locally when MSU was #1? I imagine the locals were excited and just enjoying the moment. Ten years…time flies.

Lots of cheating in Mississippi during that period. It was interesting to watch State and OM go after it and the NCAA. The state of Mississippi was all in on college football.

For those downvoting just know I’m laughing at you as there was massive cheating and yall know it. Hell OM is now on to faking injuries still needing an advantage

If you’re referring to Texas A&M, then you’d be wrong. They went into the last regular season game of 1939 as #1 vs. Texas and won, securing the AP title.

Army is 6-0 and Navy is 5-0. First time since 1945. Makes 10 years seem like last week.

Also were ranked #1 in the middle of the 1957 season.

let State have this. they have it rough right now.
Not really. I mean most teams struggle a bit with an all new coaching staff, but they're playing hard and not quitting on the coaches or themselves. That's something to build on in the future, and cowbell could become the Texas Tech (spoiler team) of the SEC if they get a few key recruits.
