The Bear will always be the greatest coach in Bama history, and Saban wont pass him. Plus he's a legacy, Saban is a yankee liberal from Kent St.
The Bear got more out of less and here's the why because he cared and took time to mold his guys. He took ordinary players and made them extraordinary. There weren't 6'4 300 lb lineman in those days, he didnt have a whole bunch of blue chippers.
The Bear kept most of his staff intact for his entire 24 years because the assistants and players loved the guy.
Can you say the same about Saban??
This is bullshite Revisionist History
Bear had unlimited schollies due to the fact he "hid players" on the swim team, baseball team, track team, and any other Athl Team on campus, the lying scumbag lied to Recruits to stash them somewhere at Bama rather than having to play against them and Coach against them, and back then once they signed with Bama they were effectively eliminated from ever playing for another SEC Program
What Saban has done in an Era of 85 schollies , even if you take into account "oversigning & Roster Mgmt" is nothing short of miraculous. In an Era where everyone has access to TV Games, where Games are always televised somewhere, it is at least 5X as hard for Saban to do what he did vs what Bear did
From an outsider's perspective Saban is light years better than Bear as a HC and as a guy that runs a "clean program" (at least clean enough to stay in the grey areas of the NCAA Rulebook), whereas Bear was always crossing the "line", Saban goes right up to the edge of the line without crossing it
Also Saban never had any games like USC-1969 or Nebraska-1971(?) where his Team just didn't belong on the same field with another Program
You just don't realize how good you have had it with Saban, I'm surprised anyone around T-Town would even mention Bear's name anymore
Stop waxing poetic for the "good ol' days of Bear Bryant", your best Era by far has come with Saban as the HC and IT IS NOT CLOSE

Nick Saban:
157-23 overall record (90-15 in the SEC)
5 national championships, 6 SEC championships
Paul "Bear" Bryant:
232-46-9 overall record (137-27-5 in the SEC)
6 national championships, 13 SEC championships

Speaking of bullshite revisionist history...
44-16 says hello. Also, Saban didn't hit his stride until he got to LSU. Bryant produced great teams at Kentucky and Texas A&M before returning home to Alabama.

As great as Bear was he never beat ND! The most money I lost on college football was the second game & Bama lost again!

True that they lost to Clemson, but the way the game unfolded, Ckrmdon got on a hot streak and hit a few big passing plays, whereas in the Games I listed above Bama was just beat down to where it looked like they were on a different level than their opponent
Clemson snowballed a few big plays into a rout, that's not the same as being outclassed

You're obviously speaking from what you had read to you. Bear didn't have to hide anyone.

USC was 1970 in Birmingham. But then Bryant sprung the wishbone on USC in LA the next year.
All great coaches get their arse kicked from time to time. Saban has 2010 South Carolina and 2018/19 Clemson.

Oh, I'm sure they were completely unbiased, "reliable" sources.

What is the consensus from Bama fans if they want Saban to pass “The Bear” for national championships or not?
Why would I NOT want more national titles? That's silly.
In the end it doesn't matter. Alabama is probably going to go down as having the two most prolific college football coaches of all time. It's rare for a school to even have one coach in the conversation; Alabama's the only one with two. It's a nice burden to have.

Who asked a Tech fan who doesnt know shite, everything around campus is Coach Bryant so STFU. Saban doesnt cross the line?? LOL, sounds like you're still sore that the Bear use to beat the Ramblin Wreck like a drum!

The one thing I'll say about this is if Bryant played under the same rules as Saban he loses at least the 64 and 73 National Titles. He might gain another one or two, but he definitely loses those.
On the other side if Saban played under Bryant's rules his SEC championships go from 6 to 9 (He would keep all he did win plus be outright champions in 2008 and co-champions in 13 and 17).
Also in regards to the Bama/Clemson title game last year, you also have to remember Alabama had the ball in the redzone on three drives in the second half and got *zero* points. Clemson still wins the game if all of those are scores, but the game was actually closer than 44-16 makes it look. That fake field goal
