Is AU 2014 the Texas A&M of 2013?

Preseason anyway, the 2014 Auburn team feels awfully similar to the 2013 Texas A&M team.
Both beat Alabama rather dramatically the year before (and lost to LSU), both had high powered offenses at the time with good (sometimes great) QB play, and both had questionable defenses.
During the off season last year, A&M fans anointed Sumlin the next GOAT, now many AU fans are doing the same with Malzahn.
Then the season started . . . A&M went backwards a bit (especially defensively) with the loss of some key starters.
Will AU suffer the same fate? Why or why not?

That would be very disappointing.

This is actually a decent comparison even though Malzahn had a much better first year than Sumlin.

Auburn is far more talented on defense. They could very well be a 9 win team, but they won't have to play basketball on grass to do it.

Their defense won't regress as much as ours did

True, they still have Chizik's recruits on D.

Mostly bama fans, AU thread... It's true the melt continues!

Um, everyone has disagreed.

I don't think Auburn is winning 12 games this season but I seriously doubt Auburn's defense will regress that far. There's still a lot of talent on that side of the ball, many of whom didn't get a chance to play last season.

2012 A&M finished 3rd in the West.

Good enough recruits to keep FSU under 400 yards of offense

Damn . . . only 4 down votes? I am actually trying to broach an actual comparable topic.
I disappoint.

Ah that which aubies love to overlook. The players Chizik the defensive minded coach brought in, are getting close to being gone.
We then get to see how Gus really does on defense. Smart money's on not so good

Even as bad as our defense was we were a few plays away from 12-1 (and 7-6). We towed that thin line all year and came out pretty even. Had we had Auburn's string of luck, it's pretty easy to come up with a scenario where we are playing for the national title game as well.
It's unlikely, but if their defense is poor again and they don't catch the same breaks I could see them winning 8-9 games.

And that's not possible for this AU team? See 2010 Alabama.

Nah, but good attempt 8/10

We get better on defense this year. A&M got drastically worse on D last year.
