(Almost put this on more sports board just to piss some people off , but ill put it here instead)

Anyways the series of matches will start Saturday. Its a huge match between a long time great chess champion Vishwanathan Anand vs a young Magnus Carlsen who was a childhood prodigy.

I will list a link below that will have the dates and times of the matches, a live twitch link that will provide live commentary, as well as the youtube site where you can, even better yet, watch the match afterwards and still see all of the commentary. If you like chess, then this guy, Jerry, is the best on youtube at giving interesting fun commentary.

LINK

As well as a short documentary on Carlsen.

Good. Since at least one person cares, which is 1 more then I was sure I would get... I will also post the site that has a listing for all of their games. Remember a lot of these were played when Carlsen was just a young teen and Anand an adult.

Playing chess on my Android app right now. Not very good though, I'm about a 1375 rating.

Subscribe to chess network (Jerry's) youtube page which is the first link I provided and watch a lot of his instructional videos. His upbeat analysis is interesting (esp compared to the monotone voices out there) and will really open your mind to better play.

I willl never forget this for as long as I live

Stunning Anand victory

Anand collapses and then Kasparov makes an elemental blunder to lose the match.

Stuns me to this day, Kasparov got old

Nice here is a link of Jerry's commentary on an old blitz match between 14yo Carlsen vs Kasparov.

So a move leading directly to a double attack is considered an elemental blunder? I'm committing some very primary ones then lol...

I watch ever few years. Wish I could still play like I could as a youngster.

I know I talk old days a lot ... but was anyone else around and playing back in the Fischer/Reshevsky days ... or even the Fischer/Spassky days?

The fricking golden years. Nothing like it has ever been seen before or since.

And I used to listen to that crazy fricker on HAMM not ten years ago or so. Perhaps the most brilliant man of my lifetime, but what a total dick. It always made me wonder if being that intelligent is worth it.

My understanding is that Kasparov had a winning position and flubbed it by losing that Queen.

[edit: LINK The Queen to E3 lead to losing that queen and let Anand get a great position]

Yeah I definitely understand that it's a huge blunder for someone of his skill level, but for most chess players I don't know if I'd consider it "elementary"...if so then I need to practice a lot more.

Well I actually over slept my alarm and woke up at 5am instead of 4. By the time I logged in the game was over. 16 moves in and they shook on a draw. Sort of an underwhelming ending to a build up but this is only match one of several to be played over the next couple of weeks. Jerry will have the video up on youtube probably later today or tomorrow. He was going to watch the press conference so he should have some commentary on why they felt the position was a draw in such a short period of time.
