Before you jump on me... Yes, Tyler Russell is the best true quarterback that we have had in years. He has a cannon for an arm and for the most part makes good decisions. With that being said....

The game has changed. Success in college football (unless you are fricking powerhouse like Bama) takes a little mobility at the QB position. Dak is a physical freak. He is massive, elusive, has straight line speed, and has a damn good arm. He honestly can be compared to Tebow's college playing style. Brian Wilson said that if he wasn't a QB he would be the best linebacker on the team.

Merlin's offensive scheme makes is undeniably most successful when there is a mobile quarterback in the backfield. I think dak would kill on the speed options, read options, and then the play action pass. I have a bad feeling about next year... but once dak takes the reigns I will be more than confident in our offense against SEC defenses.

I agree just look at manzel, wallace, driskell, conner shaw. They can all run and are all a threat to go pick up the first down by themselves. Unfortunately russell is not really a threat to do that

Exactly my point. He is either going to throw it or hand it off. There is no threat of him busting a 40 yard TD run off a scramble or running the option in any form. Defenses key in on that. That's why our offense gets shut down by good defensive minded coaches that actually watch film. I mean Ole Miss completely out-coached us. Alabama, aTm, and LSU were mostly just more talented, but we also got out-coached. We could have beaten LSU with a different offensive scheme and Dak at QB IMO.

I can't wait for the Dak era. Not because I don't like Russell, but because I am tired of our bullshite playcalling on third down. We won't reach our potential as an offense until we have a true dual threat starting at qb.

Add to that fact that I'm not really confident that Mullen is nearly the offensive mind working with a pure pocket passer as he is when he can run with a dual threat read option QB. It was ironic watching the Egg Bowl with OM looking like the old MSU with Chris Relf and MSU looking like the old Houston Nutt offense with Snead.

1st play call: Long developing pass play, Russell sacked or hit
2nd play call: Perkins rush for 2 yards max
3rd play call: see the 1st play call

We don't have the o line to utilize Tyler Russell to his fullest potential. They let him get killed back there most games. Yes I am ready to go back to a spread type offense.

The announcers for the Arky/State game keyed in on Russell's foot positions and weather or not he was going to hand off or throw. I am sure Mullen was made aware of this and no one corrected it and I am sure OM keyed in on it as well.

I wonder how he will handle the Heisman and winning the college world series in the same year.

to be fair, that was on a play where Tyler took the snap under center which we don't do

He will never make it to campus. You better focus your attention to the flippage of Dobbs.

He's actually sitting out for a large part of the games. His team is getting out to such huge leads in the first half. He is the QB of the best high school in the nation and all...no big deal.

The 29 to 1 TD to INT ratio is mind blowing.

Can't wait to watch his sr highlights.

I hope we get him because the future would be real bright with him and Dak...but I think MLB is going to be his future- not Starkville
