I'm starting to wonder if this will ever happen.

The way the game is now it’s honestly not necessary. Players don’t give a shite about how the stadium looks as long as they are getting paid

I’ll die on this hill.
South end zone wrapped all the way around the stadium to improve aesthetics and trap crowd noise for a fraction of the cost. I do not give a frick about “nice concourses”
And you wouldn’t lose much capacity for any upcoming season. Could increase capacity to around 70k. And the new club level seats would increase revenue.

That would be nice but the plan is to redesign the entire stadium starting with the West and North sides and then do the East and last South.

Where are we getting this information? Real question. I haven’t seen any long term plan….which is how we got here in the first place.
I just want a frickin plan, not lipstick on a pig. I don’t care if it’s a 25 year plan.

The plan that got put on hold in 2022 said that it was a total redesign. They said they were starting with the west side and the longterm plan is to bring the whole stadium into the new design.

I really wish they would just put double decker standing room off the east and west SEZ connecting to press box and the rebel club. Doesn't even need to be concrete. No need to do something super expensive when we really don't even need more seats. Ex below is Auburn Jordan Hare Stadium on the left and right. Then put video boards above it.

I disagree. I think we need to raise capacity to 70-75k. When we are decent, we have no trouble selling out. I also hate having the visiting fans spread out through the stadium. We need an upper deck to put their fans in.

We need to quit polishing the turd and build a new stadium.

That is actually the longterm plan. They are going to replace the West side first and then the East side.

Expansion is a terrible idea. Last year was one of the best seasons in school history and certainly the best in modern history and we didn't sell out several games.
Our AD is also known to "boost" attendance numbers. Take this video, for instance, and go to the 1:39 mark. Would you really say with a straight face there were 60,000+ people there? Official attendance was 60,097.

It's Mercer. There's not an SEC team out there that will fill their stadium for Mercer.

Schools count tickets sold....not how many humans are in the stadium. That goes for every sport at every school.

Sure, that’s true. Two things can be true at the same time - no team would sell out for Mercer and we don’t need to expand VHS.

Why not? Increased ticket sales generates money for the team. I remember when we were at 42k seats and people said we didn't need a bigger stadium. Same when we were at 50k, 55k, etc. Yet with every expansion, we ended up selling out.

Because our stadium is a mishmashed, unholy amalgamation of four different stadiums and it needs to be renovated to be one actual unit.

State built a building in the end zone and it looks out of place. And try tearing it down. Won’t happen. The opposite end zone is nice but if better not by much.

I keep hearing this, but haven’t seen anything saying it outright.
Also, if we aren’t tearing down the end zones, we are continuing to polish a turd and making it look less uniform.
At least we have uniformity in the grade of the bowl at the moment. The renovations suggested would disrupt that if there isn’t a plan to do the end zones over time.
I’m not saying it’s not completely infeasible to tear down the whole thing, but for such an important and historic place for our campus, you’d think we’d want something to be proud of long term. Idfk

It was in the original campaign. Carter said that they were going to start with the West side, because it was in the worst shape, and do some temporary stuff to the NEZ. Phase 2 will be to make the East side match the new West side. Phase 3 will be to make the endzones match the new sides. Unfortunately, the cost of materials skyrocketed right when they started the campaign so the price tag would have been about double what they had planned. Then, NIL took off and Kiffin asked Carter to shelve the stadium reno and focus solely on getting NIL going, which I am glad that we did. Now, on top of all of those things, the most recent focus is on the NCAA settlement dealing with direct payments to players, including back pay to 2016. Carter wisely paused all facility projects, that weren't already underway, until we got a better understanding of what our new financial commitments would be. He stated several times in various interviews that we aren't going to see any major work on facilities for at least 2 more years.
I think the pause was a good move as to not put us into a financial tailspin. I think a lot of schools are going to really eat it hard. We are preparing to be successful in the new era and, just like with NIL, hopefully pull ahead of some of these schools that aren't preparing for the future.
As for the stadium. I think the master plan of doing this in phases is a good approach and the longterm strategy is to have a stadium that is cohesive and much more impressive.

Agreed.
It doesn't have to be a single unit. Tiger Stadium is an amalgamation too, but comparing that cathedral to our stadium is not apples-to-apples.
To be honest, as long as we keep winning, no one will give a frick.
