I'm really hoping we can get some good recruiters on staff now. Lane was a shitty recruiter if we are honest.

Yeah, we relied on the portal but should have had better HS recruiting. That never happened under him. We don't even know who is going to leave via portal yet until our playoff run is over.

I actually prefer Lane’s recruiting method. I see no purpose in high school recruiting unless someone is just a stud that can make immediate impact. I realize it’s harder to instill culture this way, but these kids are mercenaries. It’s just a reality of modern football.

I do hope our new staff is more active on that recruiting front though. Lane seemed to be a photo op guy, not totally in.

I’m with you. Lane’s method led to our best seasons in 60 years. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it

I must be retarded because people misunderstand just about everything I type.

I think Lane's method was good and I'm not saying that should change but our HS recruiting should be better. Some kids really do just stick with a program. Not every kid is a mercenary, just some of them. Most kids still stick with the school they sign with out of HS. That's a statistical fact.

I think O Line and D Line are key to identify out of HS. Probably add DB’s to that list too. Very few quality linemen in the transfer portal. Especially if we keep a similar offense, skill positions are more plug and play although you still need good talent eval.

I asked Grok earlier about NFL talent per capita and Mississippi currently ranks #3 with active NFL players and going back to the leagues inception we’re ranked #1 by a decent margin. Yes the portal has proven to work and it’s hard to keep kids at one place more than a year, but I’d really like to try and lock down the in-state talent for a number of reasons.

Our best players on defense are HS recruits. Perkins, Xav, Echoles, Franklin.

It would be nice to get 15 bluechip recruits every year. That gives you a core of 60 guys and then fill in the gaps with instant impact portal guys like Dart, Harris, Nolen, Amos, Lacy, Chambliss etc.

Now ask Grok how we rank with NFL talent per in-state SEC school (i.e. MS NFL Players per # of MS SEC Teams).

Per capita doesn't help much when we have the lowest population in the SEC and multiple SEC programs.
