I was talking to a colleague here about the recent petition to move the student section and kinda poking fun. Yeah, I know y'all got moved, but lots of student sections are in the sun. The Swamp is way worse about punishing heat, and we never complained.

But beyond that, she told me a couple of things that I really did find surprising and am seeking independent confirmation.

First, how much does a student season ticket cost? Second, is it true that students here can't do block seating, as in at the beginning of the season, you set up a group with the ticket office, and when you go to get tickets, any person in the group can pick them all up, and you all end up together.

For that matter, do you even get tickets, or do they just scan your ID and it is general admission?

Seriously, not trolling. While I think the griping about the sun is a little funny, some of this is legitimately troubling. It seems at a glance that other universities with considerably larger student sections still seem to provide a helluvalot better game day experience for students.

Y'all know; what's the story?

1. Like 130-140$ I get free student tickets so I'm not entirely sure on that

2. All student seating is GA they just scan your ID

Being in the sun isn't the only thing thats the problem with the new student section, the new section is literally built entirely out of metal so while sitting directly in the sun I'm positive that it's about 20 degrees warmer than the rest of the stadium. That's also not to mention that everything is extremely sticky thanks to drinks being thrown up. Personally if I even go to games now I just sit in the old student section as it's just so much better and there's a ton of empty seats now that everyone (including myself) hates this coaching staff.

It all comes down to money at the end of the day. The shade side (south side) tickets can sell better and since they added the field club, they don’t want the student behind the field club. Drinks raining down on premium seats isn’t ideal. It sucks but the new field club means it has to be moved. Not all the students could fit on that side since they took a huge chunk away.

There was 2000 unsold student tickets this year, they could fit the student section back there if they wanted to

Before they built the south endzone expansion weren’t the students in the north endzone? For 11am games everyone is in the sun.

Would it be better to move all the away fans to the north endzone and move the students to the current away section? That’s the only good compromise I can think of.

This makes the most sense.

But nobody would buy the seats in the North Endzone. It’s all about revenue maximization, fam. Tough luck for the students.

That's exactly what it's about. Not every student section is in the sun, but they tend to be in the cheapest ground-level seating that isn't behind the visitor's bench.

So aside from moving the student section out of the north end zone and/or fielding a team that is worth a damn, what are some other things that would make attending games more appealing?

Teleportation devices that made me avoid driving to/in Oxford/paying for parking/waiting on busses.

Students now just bitch too much. We were in the North Endzone for part of the years that I was a student. Back then, the student section would fill up way before the game started and students would stand the entire game. It was hot as hell back then too. We still went and stayed. The west side of the stadium gets hot and isn't in the shade either.

Students only care about partying in the Grove and then going to the square as soon as they can.

Doesn't matter where their seats are located.

Yeah my friends that went to bama say the same thing. They have the best team in the country and students still leave at halftime
