Sure you can shrink it down. But if you just shrink it down without any incentive to stay longer you are still going to have the same problem with students leaving early but just to a lesser extent since there is less there
IMO the only way to do it would be to create some sort of incentive for staying. I doubt a premium seating incentive would work because who is going to police that. The only thing I can think of would be a negative incentive in which the students are penalized monetarily for not going or not staying by making them badge out. But even that won't work for a lot of them since they will probably just have their parents pay it
Probably just a problem we are going to always have

Just as you scan your id in to enter, you have to scan your id out if you leave before the end of the 3rd quarter. If you leave x number of games early then you miss x number of games later in the season.

Forcing people to scan out as they leave is a stupid idea, if they want people to stay then give them an incentive to stay not penalize them for leaving.

How about just pay the kids $10 each as they swipe out their cards at the end of the game?

And how are we going to know who stays and who leaves without scanning people out at some point (either at the end of the game to see who stayed, or earlier to see who leaves). Whether we incentive or punish, either way you are scanning people as they leave.
What type o incentive would you like to see? My first thought was maybe make basketball games free for students who stay, but basketball games are already free for students aren't they?

The incentive to stay is getting drunk while watching football. You only get that chance in VHS 7 times a year. It's not that hard.

Is enough for most on here but is obviously not enough for a lot of students
Badging out wouldn't be that hard. Buy and set up 5, 10, even 20 machines that you swipe your card as you leave. Even if it costs $100,000 it would pay for itself easily

Would never work. Take some of their tickets away and sell them as season tickets to adults. They actually pay and will stay. Tbh, our students attendance at games has been disgusting and makes me want less for them.

Why wouldn't it work? I think I agree that it wouldn't work but I can't come up with a good reason why it wouldn't.
Have plenty of machines. Have a couple people available for those whose badges won't scan. If you forgot to scan, doesn't work, don't want to go, etc then give them one free pass a year
Some would see that they won't go enough and it'll be too expensive for them thus creating more seats to sell. Those that do go will stay longer because they will be monetarily punished for not going
Seems so simple but you are probably right that it wouldn't execute properly

Have them voluntary scan it after the game and that game is free if they don't scan it at the end then they have to pay for it,unlike your way it would be voluntary instead of mandatory
ETA: Or some other form of incentive for scanning after the game

I could see a mandatory swipe upon leaving the game or a loss of ticket availability the next year for said student. Bring the scanner out half way during the 4th quarter. If you have more than two games where you don't scan out you lose the ability to purchase student tickets the next year.
Kids don't sit in actual assigned seat anyway so just reduce the amount of student tickets the next season and sell them to season ticket holders.

But then people would just exit the stadium through a different part of the stadium as you can walk all the way around the stadium now.

Meh, everybody's students suck. Look at Lsu's board. Bama has the same "problem". Not exclusive to our students. Probably more of a generational thing rather than an OM problem
That's the "problem" when you're tailgating scene is as good as ours. Tv's at every tent. Drinks, etc

This is the new generation. These millenials don't care about anything but their smartphones and virtual friends. A few years back, when I was a student if a girl wanted to leave and make her boyfriend go with her, the guy would catch hell for it.

If you're going to cut back student tickets (which I don't love), A good chunk should go towards some sort of discounted young alumni program. Plenty of passionate recent grads that can't afford season tix that would love to go to games I bet. And still young enough to cheer passionately

Would that same group make enough to live in Oxford or be able to make it back to enough games to warrant such a program?
Give the tickets that aren't being used to regular season ticket holders and just cut back on the students allotment. Those tickets would be cheap anyways considering the location.

Die hards have been bitching about student sections since at least the 70s when my dad was in school. it's not generational.
A lot of people just don't really care about football more than their social lives. Tbh wish I didn't give a shite about it myself.
I think they should limit the # of student tickets. It's not going to cure the problem but at least it looks less shitty on television. Punishing them for scanning out isn't going to do shite when they can just walk to any section and bail.
