Not an apology thread, but I will admit that I think a lot of the Bianco hate is driven by things that happened almost 20 years ago. Coaches learn and evolve so I’m not sure it’s still fair to hold 2009 against him in 2026.
Since 2014:
Missed tournament 2017, 2023, 2024
Lost in a road regional 2015
Lost as a regional host 2016, 2018, 2025 (these hurt the most)
Lost in game 3 of supers on the road: 2019, 2021
Made it to Omaha: 2014, 2022, 2026
Is there anyone who has been more consistent AND has a natty in that time frame? Maybe LSU and/or UF but that’s probably it. Even vandy has had slumps. Yes, we should arguably have 2-3 more Supers and 1-2 more Omaha trips but he really has met any reasonable standard over the last 13 years.

Think those 05-10 teams and the Thomas Dillard and kessinger teams are what people hold on to. I'm still convinced the 05 team is the best one we've had

It’s totally fair to say that Bianco wasted some great teams. But in the grand scheme of things the top line results have generally been what you would expect.
Also: hiring a pitching coach is a big adaptation that has driven our wins this postseason. No way bianco dials up the changes this good.

Much like in 2022…..he made some great late season adjustments. Hopefully it ends just the same.

quote:it really sucks that we’ve run into some insanely good teams along the way. We got matched with a Texas team that swept the CWS, with arguably our best team, the next season we had Miami with 40+ wins, then a 49 win ASU, and a 49 win Virginia squad that had won 17 of their last 21, beating two top 10 teams in the ACCT and had just swept the Irvine regional.

We probably should’ve beaten Miami & definitely Virginia but “that’s baseball” as our wise leader once said. I do think we probably win it all in 05 had we gotten past Texas though (and that’s something those Texas players said too). And if we had broken through and won one back then there’s no telling how our fortunes change in subsequent seasons.

I think this is the main thing. Our most dominant and consistent teams in the regular season have lost to Miami, Texas, and UVA in super regionals. And lost to teams like Tennessee Tech, Tulane, and Murray State at home in regionals.
Seems like we thrive in the post season when we aren’t a host and expectations are lower.

I'll never forgive him for 2018 and Tennessee Tech. They pitched a right fielder and scored 15 runs in Swayze Field. We never - not once - adjusted to their slower, junk ball pitching, despite playing them for 18 innings.
The talent on that team was insane. We had multiple future big leaguers and didn't do diddly squat with them.

Bianco is like the tom coughlin of college baseball.
He’ll go on a magical title run here and there and other years fans will talk about hiring someone else
I remember a few months ago when last popped on this board that a few fans were talking about feeling ready to move on then

Anyone have any intel for next season? Obviously want to enjoy reaching Omaha, but we're probably losing our entire weekend rotation and our most important position players. State and LSU are already returning a lot and killing it in the portal.

Honestly that happens about every other year.

Just enjoy the run bro. Bianco is here forever. We will be what we’ve been.

Nod to Keith for not firing his sorry arse when he deserved it. Ole Miss in the football playoff and Omaha in the same year. What a time and congrats Mike.
