He's recruited better than AK but so far none of those recruits have hit. Eventually he's going to have to have a string of good evaluations otherwise we will stay around the lower end of the middle of the conference.

Basketball is the one college sport that quality recruiting can show difference in two seasons.

He went to the show with AK's players but couldn't repeat with his players. That's kinda concerning.

If I’m not mistaken, Kermit was at Middle Tennessee several years before he got them to a very respectable level. Granted, that’s Middle Tennessee, just saying.

Within the context of my previous post, that isn't really a good thing.

With his resume and experience it better not take several years for us to become respectable.

Crowley was a 4 star guard that was almost a top 100 player but has struggled getting playing time. Murrell was the highest rated recruit we signed out of high school ever and he struggled last year. Ruffin the next year was rated higher than Murrell was and might be the starting pg this year. Brakefield was a top 30 recruit that transfers in and will be starting this year. The best player Kermit has signed out of high school is probably KJ Buffen and he transferred to UAB. Murrell, Ruffin, and Brakefield will probably decide how long Kermit will be here.

Yea I saw the score online before I posed the question.... a little concerning. Arkansas also struggled in their exhibition, so hopefully it's just playing together jitters

I keep reminding myself that Calapari went 9 and something last year. I do that so that I won’t think Kermit isn’t the answer too quickly.

I'm not a big basketball fan. Hell, I grew up watching more Memphis basketball than Ole Miss basketball, however, objectively Kermit is not a good basketball coach. He's kind of a Mark Richt of basketball. He wins some big games but loses a lot of games that he shouldn't. It's a weird mixture of overachieving and underachieving. I'm not calling for his head because I simply would rather the money get funneled into football and baseball but he is not a good coach. Extending him was not the right call except for maybe recruiting purposes.

You would love him if he was the Mark Richt of basketball. You would be in the tourney ever year

You're durn tootin', ENGT.

Our basketball history is putrid. Any sustained success is welcome.

Well, I meant it as his reputation of being hot/cold instead of his overall level of success.

Ole Miss basketball is an afterthought. At least with Andy Kennedy, we had some laughs.

It doesn’t have to be an afterthought though. Like the above said, a couple good recruiting seasons and it’s pretty much turned around. The building is top notch and easily accessible, etc. If the product is good they will come but we are sputtering for sure.
