I'm always excited for football season to start. My first Ole Miss football game was on television. I watched the Rebels defeat the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame. The Irish later defeated Houston in the Cotton Bowl behind Joe Montana's leadership and claimed the NC. I was 12 years old and our family had recently moved from Memphis to North Mississippi and it was the first thing in Mississippi sports that I had witnessed for myself.

My father had told me stories about Archie Manning and the great Ole Miss teams of the 60's, but after watching that game, and how an undersized and out manned team was able to beat Notre Dame I became an Ole Miss Rebel.

I've experienced some tough losses through my 40 years as a Rebel. Chucky Mullins death being one of the toughest. His injury and passing happened after I had graduated, but still hit home, because he was part of the Ole Miss family. He exemplified the character that all Rebels should strive to emulate. I've witnessed many of the great victories on the field, but the greatest victory was watching the Ole Miss family coming together to support Chucky Mullins after his injury. Seeing the Ole Miss family empty their pockets and give to a poor African-American kid from Alabama was contrary to the history of the school's racist beliefs that were still being talked about nationally and still to this day. This collective act of generosity and kindness by the Ole Miss family may be my most memorable win in my 40 years as a Rebel.

So, I will make the games I can, DVR the ones I can't and wear my Chucky button and be damn proud to be a Rebel.

After all, this year's offense could be the best statistical offense to ever play in the SEC. And along the way we will win some and lose some, but it should be exciting to watch.

3 NFL talents at WR, 3 at OL, 1 at TE and possibly one at QB. So, even if you can't go to a bowl game, being part of a record breaking offense will be good for your professional resume'. Right?

There are 4 games at home that the Rebel faithful could play a huge factor. Bama, Auburn, SC and state will require extra ordinary effort by the players and support by the Rebel faithful. Either be there for the Rebels or quite bitching.

I'm looking to make 10 games, possibly all 12 if possible.

All this “settling for 8 wins” bullshite is just that: bullshite

Obviously this is true, at least for now and the immediate future, but the fear of getting stuck with Luke and permanently sliding back into this is totally legit imo. I could easily see us winning 8 games this year in spite of more shitty coaching while getting carried by left over Freeze talent, then locking ourselves into Luke “cuz he’s a good ole baw!” in typical Ole Miss fashion.

I don’t think it’s that fair to bring up historical numbers since the school and program are both in a measurably different place now than they were even 10 years ago. The landscape of college football has changed as well but we were giving Hugh a nationally top tier contract, Ole Miss isn’t far removed from that seeming impossible.

I hated the Luke hire just as much as everyone on that spends every post on this boarding as an opportunity to complain about him. That said, I think it’s probably best to try to put that aside as much as possible to evaluate his performance this season. Luke will likely suck again but we should at least save the torches and pitchforks for until that actually happens after he gets a year with the keys.

They've both cut back severely on their posting in the last year or two.

Ok, I’ve been one where I have been on the fence about Luke. I said I would support the team no matter what. But I spoke to some guys from the team today who have been there through both coaches, and believe it or not they feel more disciplined now. They feel like every practice is balls to the walls and they get every ounce out of them, and the players don’t mind. They love being challenged. Maybe we don’t see what goes on behind the scenes a lot. In the past pure talent won us games. Now the talent they have is being brought to surface. Whether that turns into wins we shall see. But at least the players are buying in. That’s a big step.
Anyways I am excited to watch some football.

I’m excited to watch our offense and understand that I’ll be frustrated with everything else.

Luke has to be given a chance. Without fan support, this team won't make it. They're talented, yes, but a few loud, sellout home crowds and some decent road crowds will do wonders for this team.

He had his chance last year and didn't impress me one bit.

That's what I'm hoping for so boosters and fans who supported the Luke hire will realize how fricking dumb they were

I actually think the team will win this year and maybe even surprise like a Bama early with their young secondary. I could see 8 wins and everyone is bought in. The problem is this guy recruits like Cutcliffe. We are gonna end up with average talent in a above average league. You are never going to win big with that recipe in this league.

As long as Mark Emmert is running the NCAA, CFB will be rigged. I wish the FBI would investigate his sorry arse while they are looking into BB

Yup, I agree. I hope our administration is looking into who will be our next coach. Luke is a good band-aid for what our programs going through, but he can’t recruit to compete at the SEC level in the long run. Hope we get a new coach in after this year even if we do better than expected.

Henry, I have been on here as long as you have. As I’ve explained I had to swap emails cause I couldn’t remember.
I’m from the old school. The days getting up earlier in 2013 to catch the draft. Even further than that. This is no means my choice for coach, but how will the kids feel running on the field to booing? I’ve been in those shoes. We don’t have to support coach, but dang it those kids need our support. They kill them selves to make us happy. Yea some guys take off plays but have you seen the depth? They barely have enough time for water. Kids are still buying in. They have went through multiple coaches, gonna take a few for trust. So far sounds good. They are in the sun giving 110% for us. Not the coach, us fans that show support. I could care less about NFL as long as they get a degree. When they hear the roar of the crowd. They get jacked up. In closing , no matter if you don’t like the coach, yell hard as you can for the team. Let’s not be the bullies and pick on them since they could easily leave. No one is knocking on that door to play here unless he has no other options or or can’t start somewhere. I like you dude and whether you know how far back we go, this is not the guy I know that couldn’t wait for me and bebop , McrRebel,Dmagic and a few more to wake up early for recruiting day. Even us setting up a private chat for inside info. Let’s hear some positive about guys coming in. Thanks

I believe he could if we had A+ coordinators and position coaches. Unfortunately for Luke I don't think the program, nor he, has the type of reach or attraction to get those guys on staff.

Luke may be a band aid. I think he did well just keeping the team focused and competing. A field goal more against Arkansas and one more TD against aTm would have them finishing 5-0 with a backup QB. Would that have changed anyone's mind? The most important thing he did was keep the team focused and playing hard. If I'm not mistaken the defense played with 3 DE's, 3 DT and 3 linebackers for the entire game at state. State ran 94 plays and those players kept playing hard. They did because they love Ole Miss and respected their coach.

It would be nice if the NCAA would lift the 2nd year bowl ban. I think the players deserve an opportunity to go to a bowl game.

It would be a sad state of affairs for those players, if we find out that some people lied in order to get Ole Miss in more trouble than they should have been. I wounder if the players could sue the NCAA with a class action lawsuit. Pain and suffering and the lack of opportunity to get a few free gifts. It's funny, you can get free gifts from bowl sponsors, but you can't sleep on a coaches couch, hunt on a booster's land or get some free t-shirts from a booster;s store.

I Hope Michigan players enjoyed their summer educational trip to Paris. Which far outweighed any of the impermissible benefits received by players or recruits at Ole Miss.

Next time give them cash and take them on an educational shopping spree to see how to get the best bargain for their money. Then you don't have issues with players getting free merchandise. Since it's considered in part educational it should be allowed by the NCAA, right.

The NCAA continues to give the mighty and wealthy schools loop holes to do their bidding, while the smaller less wealthy schools are held to a higher standard.

Please sweet baby Jesus, let the Rebel Rags lawsuit out Mullen and the NCAA for conspiring to fabricate information so they could have cause to penalize Ole Miss.

The NCAA, Mullen and state attempted to destroy Ole Miss football. It's our responsibility to show up to every game and offer a double bird to the NCAA, Mullen and state at the end of each quarter.

Screw those bastards, with a flaming hot poker.

Yes, I'm getting excited about Ole Miss football this year!

Henry Jones, you are either all in or completely out.

Get your head right. This isn't just about winning games. It's about having these player's back, no matter what. Regardless of who the head coach may be.

If you can't do that. Get yourself one of those Wal mart hats with the A on it. So you can call yourself a winner. It's ok, we will know what the "A" really stands for on your cap.

33 days and counting. Time is running out on you Henry.

Where did Saban coach before LSU? Was it Michigan St.? If he's such a great coach, why didn't he stay there and win some NCs? Seems like he just got lucky and benefited from being at 2 schools that are perennial power houses and provide enough in state talent to win NCs.

If he was so great, how in the hell did he lose to Hugh Freeze a girl's basketball coach? Twice?
