Let's drill down on this and really get a grip on where things stand.

5 SEC teams have won 16 games and therefore have locked in hosting spots: Georgia, TAMU, Texas, Auburn, Alabama.

3 SEC teams have won 15 games and are thus in a better position than us: Miss State, Arkansas, Florida.

1 SEC team has won 14 games: Ole Miss.

Conventional wisdom says we win 2/3 this weekend and get to 16 and we host. But it may not be that easy.

There's 9 teams listed above and we get no more than 8 host sites. So let's assume someone is out. It has to be someone from the group of State, Arkansas, and Florida. So if one of them gets swept, then they're out. But if they each win at least one game (very likely) then there could be 9 teams with 16 wins.

In that case we get in over Arkansas based on RPI (theoretically) assuming they only win one this weekend.

Also, if Tennessee sweeps Oklahoma there could be 10 teams with 16 wins.

But the thing about the 3 teams one game ahead of us: They are all favored in their series:

Florida over LSU
Arkansas over Kentucky
Miss State pick em TAMU

So if FL, AR, State all will 2 of 3 games, then there are 8 SEC teams with 17 wins and Ole Miss as the odd 9th team with 16 wins. In which case we don't host.

So in summary:

Sweep Alabama and we are guaranteed a spot

Win 2/3 from Alabama and Arkansas wins 0 or 1 game this weekend and we should be good.

But if Arkansas, State, and FL all win 2 games then we are probably not hosting.

I'm not losing any sleep over this. Either we host or we don't but regardless, I just want to win the regional.

I agree with all of that.

The only reason I care about hosting is strictly personal because I can attend if we host. Somewhat unlikely that I can travel unless we end up in within about 300 miles.

I actually like our chances playing as a 2 seed against an ACC host. That would be delicious. Give me Kansas FFS. Or give me an ACC host that's matched up against Kansas in a Super.

I want to win a regional regardless, and then match up against a non SEC team in a Super. Then let that play out.

I know there is money to be made by hosting a regional, but honestly I think our chances of winning a regional are just about as good on the road.

If we don’t host I hope we get placed in Kansas or West Virginia’s regional and just wreck them for getting a host spot they don’t deserve.
