Listen, I get frustrated by Pete’s lack of pressure too, but it is clearly part of a strategy against non elite QBs. Pete was betting that a freshman QB couldn’t consistently execute and the more plays in a drive the better our chances of stopping them. Not exciting but it worked. State’s only TDs came on broken plays where the DLine got out of rush lanes.

Our good brother Ben is talking about how Golding has been the guy running the program and doing the majority of the recruiting this season. Said Kiffin is just been focusing on the offense and coming in at the end of the recruiting to get face time with prospects.
But back to my original point….you’re putting an expectation on Golding that would have been an incredible feat even with Lane. This is far from a championship roster. The Oline is improved but they aren’t prepared for a true top 5 defense. Same with our secondary. You can’t forget that we have Sage Ryan still guarding receivers.

You cannot look at what transpired and still fully believe that Lane had full concentration and involvement with the team this season. That isn’t to say he didn’t coach his arse off….but we do know that Golding has been the main recruiter on this staff.

Exactly. The only matchups I feel good about are BYU, OU, ACC champ, and G5 team. No way we jump high enough to get ACC or G5 team so we will be a coin flip at best to win the first game and a significant underdog if we make the quarterfinals. Not saying we can’t make a run, but to expect something from Pete that was a long shot with Lane makes no sense.

Yes, and we need him to if we want to win. He's not a threat like Lane was.
