If we hemorrhage players before the CFP, that would definitely affect our seeding. It seems that Kiffin found his ace in the hole leverage that I was hoping he wouldn't find. I wasn't even going to mention it anywhere.
Oh great. Oh joy.

Ace in the hole? It was readily apparent.

really hard to give a shite whether we win or not at this point.
I still want to. Watching Joe Judge, as a State grad, lead Ole Miss to a playoff win would piss off Starkville at least.

Potentially even before the playoffs begin.
If we beat State on Friday, I would be surprised if a player would opt out of the playing in the playoffs. That would be very surprising.
I also hope we can keep guys like Lacy in Oxford.

It's not like players could enter the portal right then. Firing a coach doesn't open the portal anymore - its now the formal hiring of the new coach

That he was going to rob his team of a playoff by convincing some to leave before the playoff? No, I didn't think that even he would stoop that low.

No - his leverage was that we didn't have a legal way to force him to sign an extension. There's nothing we can do unless he violates his contract, which he hasn't.

Players opt out of the post season every single year.

No players are opting out of a playoff game. They have a chance to win a championship and also increase their NIL value with a deep playoff run.

Let's hope they think that same way and are counseled as such.

The problem is we are trying to rationalize the actions of an impulsive narcissist who doesn't operate in the realm of rationality.

Another take away from the press conference was a nugget of information buried deep in the inuendo. It's speaks to a justification in his mind of leaving Ole Miss.
Kiffin was asked by Chase, I believe, about his history of leaving places and his regrets in the past for doing so. Kiffin's answer was something like, I've been thinking about that. He then gave a story from his father's funeral about how he was always at different places and that allowed his father to impact all of these different people. He said that he thinks that all of those things (moving a lot) happen when they are supposed to happen and are all part of his story.

Eh. He has said something similar in the past. The timing of the statement makes it weird though

It's a marked shift from the long tell of regret and past mistakes to "it's just part of his story."

I wouldn't be surprised if Jimmy gave him a list of Greatest Hits from his PR rehabilitation tour to regurgitate at his presser.

Yeah, it’s hard to watch that press conference and come away with any other conclusion than “he’s gone”. Visibly nervous, awkward answers. Sucks.

He was definitely prepped on how to field the questions. Deny to answer the ones that you aren't prepped for or can't give a good answer for and throw out the points you want to make when given an opportunity.

Yes, I have thought for a while that he was gone. My only concern is how everything shakes out for the playoffs.
