Last year was our national title roster. Just screwed up the coaching in a couple games. I’d say the ceiling this year is top 8 maybe semifinals if we get a lucky bounce.

So true. We had the elite defense to be a legit contender

I shudder to think of our defense in 2025 against an Ohio state or Georgia again in a rematch down the line . The offense will have to be lights out in the playoff should we get there

Yeah our defense this year is definitely a hard-cap on how far we can go. But making the playoffs this year exceeds everyone's reasonable pre-season expectations.

I personally think the most we can really hope for this year is win out and secure like the 6-7 seed. Win a home playoff game round one and just see how the quarterfinals goes. At absolute best I think we make the semi-finals, but a quarterfinals loss after winning a home playoff game feels like the most likely outcome.

If we had yesterday's defense against Georgia, we win that game.

Kelly is gone. They are trying to get his buyout down to a more manageable number before they pull the trigger. Get ready for a whole new round of rumors.

We’re about to find out how much Lane loves Oxford.

He can leave. Just please not LSU. I would hate to have to boo his arse.

After going with a whale and losing, I wouldn't be shocked if they went with a cheaper up and commer and went heavy into NIL

Why would Kelly agree to a penny less than the 54M they would owe him?

Negotiations may be LSU wanting to spread it out over a few years so the upfront number is not so huge

Payout is over remaining life on contract with an off-set clause. Both sides likely willing to negotiate to some sort of lump sum payment and just move on

LSU should be funding our NIL for a decade if lane goes there. If a coach leaves for a rival there should be a significant financial penalty

I may well be way off, but the LSU opening doesn't scare me like the Florida one. Think money is all largely the same at this point but culturally both Oxford and Florida fit him better than LSU would. I don't think he wants to deal with those crazies at this point in his career.

Either way though - make a deep playoff run and the problem solves itself with the transfer portal timing. I also do think that if we make the playoffs this year, he'll truly believe (at least for a while) that he can accomplish his goals here so why take on a rebuild elsewhere.

ETA: I also wonder if he understands that LSU and Florida would have both fired him last year for going 9-3 with that roster and he'd never have made it to this season. Year 5, senior heavy team, NFL talent everywhere, and miss the playoffs - that's essentially why Kelly is being fired today

Getting ready for the LSU fan base to descend into mind blowing madness like the gator fans through bowl season.

This is just stupidness.

Wouldn’t shock me if we are paying him $15 million when it’s all said and done.

LSU is the real threat

We could all see this coming a mile away

We basically have to make the semis to truly ensure he’s not leaving unless he signs an extension before then
