I actually like Fayettville but come on man, can you really with a straight face say it is the best in the SEC, much less the west?

College Station - Dump
Baton Rouge - Dumpster Fire
Starkville - Nope
Oxford - maybe 2nd best in the west
Tuscaloosa - Nope
Auburn - Nope

The East definitely has more competition for best city though.

Oxford is the only real competition, but its just a smaller, more uptight version of Fayetteville, minus the outdoors aspects and start-up scene.

I've seen better SEC college towns walking across the quad.

You can certainly make the argument in regards to the West

Let me know when you have photos of real mountains.

Looks good otherwise, but why show picks of so many meth heads?

I'm looking forward to making it out there one of these days. I somewhat get a Coloradoish vibe mixed in with a southern twist when reading about it or looking at your pictures

Fayetteville looks tight but lots of folks live in large cities where they make disposable income to fly to real mountains, aka Colorado and Wyoming, in the spring when football is out of season. Just sayin’

Georgia is where they filmed Deliverance. Men raping other men appeals to much of the SEC fan base. Move to Georgia and hope that one day you too can rape Ned Beatty.

Please. Keep saying this to anyone who will listen.

NW Arkansas is a hell hole. Do not move there. Do not buy up property at inflated rates. Do not lower the generally quite high level of education. Do not replenish our dwindling stock of white trash.

No worries there.

Charleston > NW Arkansas.

This is a mountain park, with mountain biking, in the city limits

There's about to be another one, too. 228 acres to be set aside for more single-track and race-ready mountain biking course. About 1 mile west of the University.

228 acres at Mountain Ranch to be set aside for another mountain bike course

There's a skills course at Lake Fayetteville Park and another one with pump track and single track under construction at Gregory Park.

The University of Tennessee campus sure as hell isn't winning any awards for damn sure, but downtown Knoxville itself is turning into a great place to be. Especially for a mid sized city. Also, our Mountains/Outdoor activities >>>> anything else in the SEC footprint.

Fayetteville ranked Best Place for Singles by Money Magazine in 2018:

Best Places for Singles

quote:

Seven months out of the year, residents can pick up fresh produce at the Fayetteville Farmers’ Market, located at the picturesque town square. Nearby Dickson Street runs directly to the university campus and is lined with shops, bars, and restaurants, acting as the area’s nightlife hub. On this street, you’ll find music at George’s Majestic Lounge or Willy D’s Piano Bar, as well as plenty of drinking spots like Sideways, Brewskis, Cork & Keg and Kingfish. Outdoor enthusiasts can explore the area’s 35 parks, which offer hiking, fishing, and biking along 50 miles of trails and three lakes. The town’s lively arts and culture scene includes the 1,200-seat Walton Arts Center, which showcases Broadway tours, music, comedy, and other performances.

I enjoyed my time living in Fayetteville. But the fricking Buffalo River isn't an hour east away, and neither is Eureka Springs. Eureka is really just a overrated tourist trap that bikers have taken over.

And it's actually a pretty quiet town. Downtown is kinda weak. The art scene is up and coming. But the music scene is the worst I've been in since I moved away from Florida 13 years ago. George's may get 2-3 good shows a year. I pretty much quit going downtown after a few months, and spent my time on Beaver Lake or camping in the Ozark Forest or near the Buffalo.

The festivals you mentioned are okay. I missed the best one sitting the summer. Bikes, Blues, and BBQ fricking sucks. That is, unless you're insecure and love saggy biker titties. Then it's a fricking blast.

And while Fayetteville is one of the nicest sec towns, it's an oasis in that state. Most of Arkansas sucks so bad, I turned down about $30-45,000 extra per year to avoid moving to Jonesboro or anywhere my company has projects. Besides NWA, no thanks.

I've defended it to everyone who asked me, "what the frick are you doing living in Arkansas." And I'll continue to defend it for being a really nice small town. But y'all still have a long way to go before you become a cultural hub. But when you talk that much shite, I'm gonna be honest.

Overall = 7/10

I would've gone lower, but I love the Buffalo that much. The Mulberry is also legit. Sailing on Beaver Lake was also nice. Though that shifty lake is a bitch to learn on.

I actually moved from Boulder to Fayetteville. Obviously most everything is better in Boulder, except the culture. I'm liberal (very liberal by this sites standards). But Boulder is pretentious as frick. They're so rich, they don't realize they're living in a dreamland. What works there won't work in most places, because of their tax base.

I also like paddling more than anything else outdoors. And while there's good paddling in Colorado, that water is fricking cold. I prefer rivers I can stop and swim along the way.

Fayetteville also had pretty shitty weed. And not just by Colorado standards. I never saw anything that impressed me, regardless of the strain.

I have been to every city/town in the SEC, spent a good amount of time in most of them. I will leave out Knoxville since I live here and I've only been to College Station for about 5 hours for a game so that one is hard as well. Just put it at 7 because nothing overly impressive or bothersome that I saw.

13. Starkville
12. Gainesville
11. Baton Rouge
10. Tuscaloosa
9. Columbia, MO
8. Columbia, SC
7. College Station
6. Oxford
5. Auburn
4. Athens
3. Nashville
2. Lexington
1. Fayetteville

Obviously just personal preference as you can see they are kind of grouped with similar cities and towns for the most part.
