She shouldn't be a judge if she can't perform her job without religious bias.

NEWPORT, TN (AP) - A judge in eastern Tennessee has changed a 7-month-old boy's first name to Martin from "Messiah."
Child Support Magistrate Lu Ann Ballew ordered the name change last week, saying Messiah is a title that has been earned by one person "and that one person is Jesus Christ."
According to reports, the parents were in court because they could not agree on the child's last name. When the judge heard his first name, she ordered it changed, so the baby was "Martin DeShawn McCullough."

Judges shouldn't be allowed to change names period. If someone wants to name their child frickface, then they should have the legal right to do so.
Private operations (like schools) would be able to legally refer to him as a different name, but his legal name should still be frickface.

WTF? A judge can change my name if he/she doesn't like it?
Where are those powers granted in the Constitution dammit?

Legally she should only be approving or denying a Petition for a Name Change if it's anything like it is here. Religious or not.

NEWPORT, TN (AP)
Explains 99.9% of why this went down. Newport, TN is the most insanely redneck part of the state.
Newport is in Cocke County:
quote:
The racial makeup of the county was 96.16% White, 1.99% Black or African American, 0.40% Native American, 0.15% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.32% from other races, and 0.96% from two or more races.
quote:
Cocke County had a long-standing reputation in the surrounding area as a center of illegal activity, particularly the production of and trafficking in moonshine and cock fighting. A series of raids beginning in 1969 targeted both illegal child sales and alleged brothels. There were allegations of involvement by local law enforcement officials.
In the early 1980s, cannabis production and smuggling of illegal drugs were reported in the area. For example, in 1982 more than 40,000 marijuana plants with an estimated value of $15 million were found growing at one site.
In 1983 state and federal probes led to the discovery of an interstate prostitution ring and the FBI's arresting the county sheriff and 43 other people on cocaine conspiracy charges. Agents also recovered more than $2 million in drugs and stolen vehicles and heavy equipment
I won't even go there, my skin is too tan.
These crazy hillbillies don't give a frick, they shot at the FBI during all those raids, cops from other districts don't venture into Cocke County.
They officially don't give a frick. You think you don't give a frick? They don't give a frick. Nobody gives less of a frick than Cocke County. If Nelson Mandela was hangin' from a cliff, gettin' ready to fall to his death--that's right--and a Newport resident was at the top of the cliff, and all he needed was a frick to save his life, and the Newport Resident had a pocket full of fricks...he wouldn't give him one.
He'd be like "Hey, please sir, I need a frick!" and the Newport resident would reply
"Ohh, you know I don't give a frick. Here's a frick.........................psych!"

I think this is the best thing that I have ever read on the Internet.

And that judge is crazy....and obviously don't give a frick.

I think if you did some research you'll find your statement to be false.

As a lifelong Christian this is how I feel about this.

What research would I have to do? I lived on the Sevier County/Cocke County line for years, they are backwards as frick there.

Martin will thank the judge in a few years.

Why would someone call their child Messiah?
Posted on 8/11/13 at 7:29 pm to c on z
It doesn't matter why. What matters is the fact that the judge had zero authority to do what she did.

Would you be friends with someone who had the balls to name their child Messiah?

This is definitely not about me not being religious. I'm not sure how anyone can be ok with a judge letting their personal beliefs... whether it be about religion, race, etc... influencing how they legislate.
